Worries Flourish With Defeat - Sunderland 3-0 West Ham

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sat, 16/08/2025 - 17:32

The opening day worries have officially started to flood in. Once the fixture list was announced, many believed that Sunderland would be a difficult opening game and going to their ground would be tough, but a three-nil defeat is something no one could have prepared for.

Our small bits of business and a Premier League Summer Series campaign were enough to maintain confidence within the camp, but the defeat has put Potter right back to reality and as all fans have known since the end of last season, the midfield once again has to be priority because once again did the midfield duo of Guido Rodriguez as well as James Ward-Prowse look lacklustre.

The first half saw the Hammers have a decent performance, but the signs were there; the lack of midfielding ability prevented us from creating more chances, whilst also hindering our defensive line with the positioning which we witnessed.

But all would go wrong in the second half, conceding three goals in the space of 30 minutes.

The first two goals came through headers, both of which were caused by bad positioning from the defence, and the third and final blow, would come through a ball over the top, gliding through the non-existant midfield, and eventually it would be placed into our net past Hermansen and in to the bottom corner, ending the game at 3-0.

Potter and Macaulay seriously need to get on the phone because whilst the first-half performance didn't reflect the scoreline, Football is played across two halves, and the suspicions of the midfield not being good enough were once again proven to the fans, club and manager.

It's tough when you've got two no-trick ponies in the midfield.

The transfer business seriously needs to ramp up because if Graham Potter is set to head into the remainder of the season with no additional midfielders, the Hammers could seriously find themselves in trouble for the remainder of the season, despite being only one game in.

Worrying times ahead, and the fate of this season is heavily reliant on the 16 days remaining of this transfer window.

Then you have to see who the new manager wants and does not want playing wise and then he has to hope Sullivan will loosen the purse strings and that wont happen till January when total panic has set in and the billionaires on the board see there cash cow dying in front of them.

He would just walk away. No, it's not ALL his fault, no he hasn't got all the players he wants and yes, he has had a couple of players foisted on him he didn't particularly want. For those reasons he should man up and tell Sullivan, well you get in the dugout and sort it out yourself. That said, there is absolutely no excuse for sending out that starting line up and no excuse for the substitutions made when the shit had already hit the fan so that is entirely down to him.
I doubt he is a real man, he looks the type to sit it out and hope for another money spinning sacking and payoff, because it's becoming clear that he is not up to managing top Premier League teams. Swedish football is his limit

Real man? Dramatic. It's football lol. Get a grip.

Maybe he wants to stick it out as he believes he can succeed instead of throwing in the towel after one bad game and running off...like a real man lol

Hearing it's all kicked off and Potter not travelling home on the team bus. Make of that what you like?

Watch this space. Can't blame him though missing all his transfer targets and having to defend calum Wilson forced on him. He's a gonner very soon. Probably tell midget porn to stick his job and screw the compensation..

You have to wonder who in there right mind would want to work for such a crazy organisation run by the demented dwarf and his....So if Potter goes well who is the next fool off the rank to believe the bullshit that Sullivan will spin about the job

Look I've nothing against any of them but I can recognise a distinct lack of confidence when I see it , I dunno who is out there to replace him ,and to be honest I'm not that concerned, like a lot of our supporters I've nearly had enough, and the worst thing is I don't think there's anything we can do about it ,it's as if we're fekin jinxed, sure we've had good sides ,I won't mention any of them but compare them to the players we have now ,problem is 2/3rds of the team are of lower division standard, and we're not the big spenders we'd like to be .
I looked at the pooh yesterday and shity today and the players they've brought in is something else, ,shity were nearly unrecognisable, to make things worse for us ,while we were being hammered 3-0 the pond scum were cruising to a 3- 0 win ,with two assists from you know who.
You sometimes think ,how can the football governing body stand over such such inequality, where the top six can do exactly what they want and all the rest can go F**k themselves ,the worst thing is I feel so sorry for Bowen ,to run and run and possess so much skill must be heartbreaking for him .
Rant over .

A newly promoted side who have been in the wilderness for 8 years are very active in the transfer market have a direction and a plan on how to play......whilst an established premier league side plod along thinking yeah we will be alright with what we have and can add an ageing striker who nobody wants to the squad sell one of the best players to our deadly rivals do not replace him and get stuffed...not beaten 1-0 but 3-0 so i am glad you are being positive and not panicking VAR and hey its only Chelski at home next and i am sure Rodriguez and JWP along with Kilman Todibo Aguered who will all of learned how to head a ball by then well we will teach them a lesson.

Let's be honest though. We sold kudus and bought has been wilson and a championship keeper.

We are going to struggle most likely. This is premierleague with clubs spending massive every season. We don't.

If you consider our expectations are to stay up which our squad suggests we're only good for then yeah that's a bad result. But we can expect more away from home tbh.

Our hope will be that we can somehow get more out of the squad we have, be strong at home and finish mid table. That's it sadly.

Under moyes we were in Europe. But the board didn't spend wisely to keep us in that bracket.

We reap what we sow. Get rid of those making board room decisions and get someone with a fat wallet and appetite to compete then we might be able to raise our expectations imo

Would we be surprised if wolves lose 3.0 away to Sunderland? Or Fulham or Everton? I wouldn't. That's the level we are too.

Until we can sort out the defense with a leader,a midfield with energy and speed and a forward with speed and energy this team will be in a relegation battle all season and remember most of the team potter still has is moyes and lopi,he wouldn't have had any of them sort of players himself and he can't even get rid of them.

I like Potter. But he is doing himself absolutely no favours whatsoever. Is he persisting with the midfield to make a point?
We need 2 midfielders & a centre half absolutel bare minimum. That's foregoing a nuch needed striker. If he is not going to purchase midfielders at least play youth. Might take them a few weeks to get upto speed but long term they woukd be a success.
