reflection thread

Submitted by Red Neck Iron on Tue, 22/03/2016 - 14:07

As it is i ternational week just using it as a time of reflection at the club. How many years ago (2 maybe) we had a team of Gary oneil, Jarvis, obrian, Nolan, c Cole, jussi, and some right bang below average player. Anyone remember the full team? A mere 2 years later there is a word of differance at the club. Take the team Slav probably prefers when fit

Adrian
Byram, ogbonna, Reid cresswell
Kouyate, noble
Antonio, Payet Lanzini
Sakho

Ok no big deal the team has got a lot better but look at what would probably be regarded as our back up team

Randolph
Obrian, Tomkins, Collins, Hendrie
Moses, song, obiang, Valencia, Oxford
Carroll

Plus kids like Samuelson, Burke Payet and Cullen.

That huge progression in my book. Even villa would be doing better with our second string/youngsters!

So which season is/was the most crucial to us, this summers transfer window or last summers? I can't help thinking it was last summers! The world and his wife will be flashing the cash this summer so the is unlikely to be bargains and more likely to be wasted millions! Most of our squad has been well constructed so with millions to spend we still have to get our homework done or itl soon go to pot. Inside our first team we need a decent striker that can stay fit and get at least 15 prem goals if we can get tore that would strengthen us too. So all we need is to strengthen our back up which maybe relatively cheaper. City paid 42 mill for
Mangala and I wouldn't be happy with that so just picking an easy option for our striker isnt on for me. What do you guys think?

never more so than when citeh come knocking fortunately for us we have owners who want value for there money and unlike the so called bigger clubs seem to do a lot of research on players.... mangala de michelis otemende not worth £10million each more like £6million....yet look at us get ogbonna for what £7million how come the scouts at the big clubs missed him? was his price tag to small to be considered that's probably closer to the truth....there will be plenty of players on offer because of the euros let chelski/citeh/manure/gooners(lol yeah)/poo/spuds play stupid prices and wages give me players who want to play for the club and not just interested in how big a wage packet they can get.....if fit i'd take danny ings of scousers and a gamble like Antonio from the championship if fit would be brit asombalonga very pacey forward scores goals I think would fit well into the squad...yes I no he has not played prem footy but nor had deeney or the other Watford guy ighalo(spelt wrong methinks)...you just never no

Couple of good posts mcbikeman and Jozi. Stick to the plan me thinks if a player isn't on our radar now the euro championship shouldn't change that! No billy big b@ll@cks players for us regardless. I'd prefer we buy before the euros so we don't waste even more money.

City are, in more ways than one, a spent force. I agree we need to be careful and not just spend millions because everyone else is doing it. I believe Slavan and the Davids will spend wisely. Onward and upward.

Can you imagine the cash that City and to a lesser extent Chelsea will be parting with this summer? Both with new managers, both with ageing squads and massive players to replace. Terry at Chelsea will be missed at Chelski, they'll probably want a less psychotic forward too. Man City need a new defence and midfield too and they'll be chucking money at it left right and centre.

I think the reason city might be going tits up is at management level ,there they were playing sweet football and proberbly the most feared team in the prem ,and they go and announce a change of gafferfor next year virtually mid season .
About Payet, how can one of the best players in Europe go under the radar for most of his career ?,its doing my head in ,its like one of these great magicians suddenly conjured him up out of know where ,begs the question how many more are out there ?one more thing ,give Benteki a wide birth ,what ever he had he's lost it and will end up a journey man going from club to club .
Sorry about the spelling mistakes Lenus .

spend on potential I say, they have desire, drive and all the buzz words that go along with that, hasbeens (generally) will let you down and have only there next big pay day on there mind. I agree with Burkie, stay away from Benteke ( i googled it) lol. Our current squad is very good and we should look to the future with young blood, we do not need to spend huge sums of money to be in the top 4. COYI

With you both on the Benteke front - but I suspect its just the usual papers rubbish! We no longer take unsuccessful flops from the big clubs, this season has proved that there are hungry players out there waiting to perform for realistic wages and prices! Sullivan attributes the success in attaining these hidden gems to the acquisition of Everton's scout Tony Henry - if he's the guy responsible for brining in Payet, Cresswell, Sakho, Kouyate et all then they were mad to let him go. Perhaps he was our greatest signing

Like a lot of you i started following west ham in the 60 s ,and its been nothing short off a roller coaster ride ,some great players ,some shite ,some good managers, some awfull, but i can honestly say ive never seen any thing like whats going on at the club these days ,i always dreamed we would make it to the top with the big boys ,but just like my dreams they fade and die ,every thing seems to be spot on now ,the board ,the management team ,the scouting team and most of all the players ,what a wonderfull feeling of comradery they have ,what a feeling when all your mates look up when their on the box down the pub and say "fair play burkie they sure are playing great stuff " and the lovely smug feeling you get when you know that they know that their lot are shite

Remember only a few months ago, we were talking about players like Emmanuel Adebeyor coming here, Frankie Lampard making a return, signing Tom, Dick or Harry, anybody really to get us out of the awful boring and mediocre mess we were in with Uncle Sam. Well, just look at us now, and for all those who didn't want to know, "Up yours ugly" HA!

You only got to read the media to see the players we are so called linked to, to realise they still haven't ticked on to the fact we have changed and are looking at a whole new type of player these days. We will only let go of players on our terms if we can get better in as a result.

Spot on Red Neck! and my thinking exactly!
Bilic knows what he wants and it's the Payets and Lanzini's of this world he looks for in midfield and attacking wing backs combined with a solid defence and strikers who have a work ethic and pace!
It's beautiful to watch these days and long my it continue! He only needs to tweak it a little next season and yes!!! the so called pundits and other managers have not cottoned on yet that we have changed and our attacking style still catches them out almost every time
