Freddie Potts Set To Leave West Ham United

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sat, 01/08/2026 - 10:16

Despite his family holding a reign and tradition in East London, it appears a decision has concluded the end of this spell, West Ham are set to sell the youngster for £10,000,000 to Club Brugge.

Club Brugge were happy to purchase the Englishman for €12m after losing their star and former West Ham target, Raphael Onyedika.

West Ham had been open to entertaining offers for quite a while, and the £10m fee is sufficient for West Ham to bite and subsequently sell.

With the Hammers already having limited options in the midfield before the sale of Potts, it begs a question when are signings going to happen because all West Ham can do is sell - though, this is what happens when you’re relegated - asset stripped.

Freddie Potts has already proven himself in the Championship with a loan stint at Portsmouth and with West Ham already suffering a blow with Tomas Soucek’s injury, it raises a concern as to whether Nuno will even have enough options come the start of the season.

Thats terrible news,in fact disgusting, letting a youngster like him go,in that it still shows, the same old bollocks at this club is still happening.

It seems a certain some are happy to sell for £10m, Nuno is on the fence and would like to wait for a replacement sorted first.... a bizarre situation

Is there any point in having an academy if we let them all go because the ones that have left in the past haven't actually been that successful over the years we have only had noble and rice that have actually done well but the majority have just ebbed away.I thought being in the championship would get a few more academy players in but at the end of the day i don't think there will be many chances for them if they can't make it in this league then they certainly won't make it if we get back into the premiership i hope i'm wrong.

Prem league Potts just not good enough but the championship he is a proven player and it is crazy to let him leave because it is the league we are bloody well in this year...i no we have a bloated squad of midfielders but i would sooner get shot of Magassa than Potts.

Maybe this is why Lewis Orford got 90 mins today. I love Freddie Potts, but I've been championing Orford for years. It's a horrible situation, but somehow all is not lost!

Really? One season at Portsmouth, lower table finish and just look at that Portsmouth team then. Come guys, he ain't great, he's no Stevie Potts, he's not even Mark Noble. We need to accept our Academy is no longer the great school the rest of the footballing world envied, hasn't been since Tony Carr left and we are no longer churning out your Michael Carricks, Rio Ferdinand or Tony Cottee to name but a few. Even Rice wasn't one of ours, was a woeful CB unti someone (can't remember who) moved him out to midfield.
That said, I think the alleged £10 mill is a bit cheap and can only assume that there is someone in the pipeline ready to come in. I won't really miss, but do wish hmwell if only for my fond memories of his dad.
