Sad to hear of the passing of Warren Mitchell a true comedy legend in my era probably not so much in these political correct times but never the less he was quality.. rip Warren.
Big westham fan!!Like you say fife a very different era of comedy, one that people would be horrified to watch nowadays;)...R.I.P warren mitchell-a spud fan in real life!
Sad to hear of the death of Warren Mitchell, his "Alf" will be remembered for a long time. He was in real life a spuds fan, but his character creator Johnny Speight I think was born in Canning Town, not sure if he was a Hammers fan, my Dad worked with his Dad in a company called Island Lead Mills in Limehouse, where there were many "Alf's" in residence. Interesting to note how many times our great club is used in fiction, even up to Rowling's "Harry Potter" Still the cream always rises to the top!
Johnny speight was from a canning town & a hammer...i was thinking the same all my fathers mates after he came out of the army were east end dockers who were all alf garnetts in disguise..;)
Thought of Alf a few months ago as the Mrs was watching 'Chicago Fire'. Anyone remember the 'home help' that Alf was given 'Marigold'? He's the chief guy running the fire station in the programme! Legend Alf Garnett RIP!
Great character,i used to love the way he would wind up alf,had him spitting feathers!!Just like jack in love thy neighbour, what the "p.c" brigade couldnt quite grasp was that alf was the one having the p*ss taken out of him...
