I agree with him in many ways. Yes, he did do all that was asked of him in the face of some ridiculous criticism form some of the club's followers, and inspite of them, he left the club in a far more stable position than when he arrived and with a far better group of players than he inherited, and overall, I think he did a good job. He was the right man at the right time.
I also believe that we will not make the top 6 this term without buying at least one more striker - even if Andy Carroll regains his fitness - and strengthen the backline with one more signing to provide cover at full back.
However, what he cannot deny is that Maiga has been a huge waste of money and that Jarvis was way, way overpriced.
Carroll's injuries were not his fault and the medical team have a great deal to answer for on that.
Overall, I feel his tenure was a success, so are we ungrateful? Well, I can't speak directly for G&S, none of us can, but it's clear that a noisy section of fans were against him from day one and before criticising him should look at themselves and the way that they behaved throughout his tenure. Such was their right of course, but he also has the same right to reply as he sees fit.
Personally, if I were him I wouldn't have gone public with it, but he obviously feels strongly about it and therefore feels that it has to be said.
Thanks Sam, and good luck for the future.
for f*ck sake get over it ,
for f*ck sake get over it , he's gone , the dinosaur is extinct , by by Sam dont call us we'll call you , if we need a new groundsman .
I think i posted on this when he was still at the club and rumors were rife ,it wouldn't be long before he was on the BBC or SKY as a pundit slaggin us off left right and centre , looks like its started already
Agree burkie.
Time to change the effing record, yes there were fans against him from the start, but the majority (me included) praised him when we got promoted, praised him when we had a great start to last season. He was criticised second half of last season cos he deserved it!Pards, curbishley, roeder, grant, macari, arry, even john lyall got stick as managers of westham. Its goes with the territory, time to move on mate methinks....
He's got a book to sell soon,
He's got a book to sell soon, so I'm sure his publishers want him to try to arouse some interest. Personally I haven't read anything of what he has said, and don't intend to: he is the past and I'm not interested.
lets not
lets not forget he had a job which he was very well paid for but was reluctant to change tactics and the 2nd half of last season was abysmal
elthammer ..
Yes "imo" our ex Football Dinosaur Allardyce was way way overpaid and especially when taking the Second Half of last season's Results in to account it was amazing he was not Sacked in one respect before the Season finished !
I do not feel any remorse for not loving him
He did a decent enough job for a season and a half, but was infuriating on far far too many occasions he obviously hated everything about West Ham's history as he always brings out the West Ham way was just about loosing which is lazy bullshit.
He earned a tremendous amount of money because of our Chairmen and is doing his best to stab them in the back just because they had the audacity not to renew his contract .
Thank you Sam Allardyce Yes we are in a much better place than when you took charge so you did a good job on that score, though teams like Southampton Swansea and Stoke too who had less money or a similar amount to spend and did just as well as West Ham so you are no King of football.
The truth is the football was bloody terrible and you chose to play it that way.
You had a chance when you listened to the fans and allowed the players to play at the start of your final season the fans were buzzing and were happy Hammers we were winning too, then you decided to revert back and bored the crap out of the fans for the last 5 months or so of your reign with turgid boring football again and we began to lose nearly every game, had we not done so well at the start of the season we could have been relegated.
Stop moaning have a big pie and a lager and enjoy life which with your bank account should be pretty sweet and good luck to you but no one was ungrateful know that, we just could not take you or your style of footy any more, that is basically the Gods honest truth.
well said
nail on the head and all that. He got paid a lot of money now he should shut the f... up and move on
yes he made mistakes, yes he
yes he made mistakes, yes he has gone, yes I am over it but I wonder if the fans who slagged Sam day one onwards had been more supportive if performances would have been better... just a thought.
In all honesty I don't think
In all honesty I don't think Allardyce was far from the truth, I didn't like his playing style, so much so that I didn't go to Upton Park at all last season mainly because of it, but I do think the owners are consistently unrealistic in the transfer market and the ambition of the club. The squad we had last year was never good enough to achieve anything other than mid table, we had no depth in numbers and as soon as a first 11 player was injured we looked out of our depth, for that reason he did all that was asked of him, he stabilised the club, kept us in the Premiership, and I think if he was relieved of his duties 18 months earlier he would've been fondly remembered, unfortunately for him and us the relationship lasted too long, easy to forget that he did a job though
Allardyce is a legend in his
Allardyce is a legend in his own underpants.he fails to state he had a useless second half of the season .he fails to state he threw the youngsters into the fa cup match and the capitulation against City.he fails to mention he wouldn't give nene a chance or that he would do anything to include his best mate Nolan in the side even though he was useless.he cannot explain why he would take attacking players off when we were chasing a game and put on another defensive player. He doesnt explain why he threw in the towel even before we got on the pitch against arsenal and chelsea. He was gods gift to west ham? My arse he was !
Makes you wonder
If he was as good as he makes out, and some other's, then why didn't any 'Top' clubs sign him up??? When did we ever hear that Manure, Shiteh, Liverpoo, Assnil, wanted him as there manager given how good his tactics and player pulling power were? He billed himself up after doing well with clubs in the lower half of the league with no real consistency but managing sometimes to get results and doing a job, but not taking any club to another level. He got us promoted, via the play-off's, but we had a spell even that season of 7 draws playing very poorly and ended up missing out on automatic promotion. Blackpool, who now languish in Division One and in financial difficulty, had more possession and more shots on the day we got promoted at Wembley but Allardyce got the lucky side of the result, so is he really the boss anyone wants at a club looking to progress and improve? Also, the second half of last season was painful enough so I'm not sure why anyone would question his departure? He would never have signed players like we have over the past few months, and even last season our goalscorer under him was signed by the board and he tried to pull the plug! He did a job, got paid well for it and should think a little bit more about his experience, as it may help him to understand his mistakes and become a better manager.
Good posts Harry & ANTKB!
The truth hurts maybe....
Sunderland calling
There are not many clubs in the Premier League that would consider hiring Sam Allardyce the "price worth paying" to save themselves from the financial Armageddon that relegation represents.
You could argue that Sunderland is the only club whose playing style would be a good match for Sam Allardyce. After today's results the call from Sunderland may come sooner than he expects. When do we play Sunderland?
Crisis meeting at sunderland today!
Like you say tungsten, could well be the time for sam to take over at sunderland! If it happens he will love to get one over us,if they beat us (god forbid) with him in charge ill be running to hide in the mountains!!;)
Ah Sam
The Sam argument is going to rumble, I'd rather draw a line under him but I think fans have got so entrenched arguing about him that watch very good or very bad result will have h his name mentioned afterwards, plus he will pipe up now and again (P.S. Richard Keys, horrible man) I do think though we will fail to push on until the actual signings get somewhere near the rumoured ones
Track Record
Had the best squad in the Chumps league yet had to go to play offs and we got in by the skin of our teeth as IMO Blackpool were the better side on the day. Kept us in the Prem playing the ugliest football ever seen at UP... thanks Sam, good luck at Blunderland and sorry you didnt get the Fulham or QP Ha Ha Ha job
