Champions League Anyone?

Submitted by Zummerzet on Fri, 15/01/2016 - 10:51

Well 21 games in, fifth in the league, best current form, and unbeaten in eight games. Dare we mention the possibility of a Champions League place?
Let's look at the contenders. Arsenal to my mind seem to be best placed, with their injury list improving they look odds on to qualify and possibly win he Premiership. Man City, always look good on paper but have that element of self-destruction but a top four place is again odds on. Leicester, well what a turn up! They are playing like demented demons and just when you think they are shot they turn up with a win at Spuds! If their luck holds and they avoid injuries they are with us a possibility. Spuds, sorry dislike them intensely, know it's childish, so sod them. Man U and Pool, good squads but cannot gel. With new to the Prem players they can produce the goods but I think not.
It look's as if the last position is up for grabs, we have 17 games to go, the lack of strikers and the injury situation is concerning so we should be looking at the next stage. The fact that we are in the new stadium next season and the possibility of Champions League football would look enticing to new signings from any league in the world.

This is a great chance for us, other teams are sporadic in their performances, so this opportunity may not present itself again. The rich clubs will improve their squad, that's a definite, Chelsea will be back next year so the big four will all be there. Added to that will the Prem still get four places in the Cham League after piss poor performance of our top teams?

Please SuGo grab this chance, it will not appear again.

we would be ready for it....of course we can qualify on merit same as Leicester but come the champions league drawing the likes of munich/barca/r.madrid..... be great to see them but we would most likely get mullered most nights except for playing one of the other minnows in the group.....if it happens great but I don't doubt we would fall at the first hurdle despite the amazing progress we have made this season.

I just love the way Leicester, Us, Watford and palace are upsetting the applecart I'd be just as happy if Leicester qualified instead of us. Bournemouth I prey they don't go down they have been brilliant. I have never gone much on the champions league. It's a bit pretentious. Having said that I do want West Ham to do as well as they can. Think we have better squad than both pool and manure. I have little doubt Liverpool won't be anywhere near champions league. The whole can we make the champions league, for me goes down to the striker situation if we can get a decent striker to stay fit we have every chance if not then we may even lose out on Europa. If we do make it its gona be a big step up for the club. We can attract better players, we get a big wedge from Europe and the next step after getting the new stadium and becoming a true European force. On the down side we need to get a few extra players in costing big bucks, which g and s will do, but unless we sort the injury problem out we will need 25 world stars in our squad to do well in the league and that's the stumbling block. Everything else looks on course except the injuries. This has been going on for years and no one knows why. It could easily end up struggling while in the champions league due to nothing more than injury, which would be catastrophic. So for me this has to be imperative we sort it out before we can think of really entertaining that hope of competing in europe

and a big IF, we had a full and fit squad we could manage it, for the first time in years we have goals from all parts of the park, as it has been said we only need a couple of more players and a fit squad and we are there coyi

Just thought of something Moore., remember lasagne gate? Well pipping spuds at the last against the odds in the last game at the Boleyn would top that. I'd laugh at that for years to come, even if we failed miserably in Europe.

This is something we have to work at in the first place. Rarely do you see teams like Leicester, Arsenal, Man City and Spuds lack this season. It is obvious after the Newcastle game, how there is a need to push for two key players in this transfer window. One needs to be a "Payet or Lanzini" kind of energetic young substitute midfielder to come on and replace a slow and very indecisive player like Noble. Also, this season unlike the other clubs in the top four, West Ham lacks a free scoring centre forward. Most of our goals are being netted by midfielders. This is a real concern and is the key reason why we are not sewing up a Champions League spot. My two cents.

After that great win over Bournemouth I too began to dream of CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, but life has a way of grabbing you by the onions and saying.... listen here my son don't you be getting carried away. Silly me after 43 years as a Hammer I should have known better. Even though that grip is still there as a reminder we have a very good team and a very good manager and we are doing very well. A string of right results that CHAMPIONS LEAGUE could be a dream come true.
