The demise of Liverpool

As an aside from our own club, whats the thoughts on liverpool? personally i think they are in trouble (yes I enjoy seeing them in this way!). IMO they should have sacked rodgers, they had a terrible season and end up sacking two back room staff members as a lame 'excuse' for rodgers own failings. suarez left but he(or they) did not prepare for this, instead they wasted 100 odd million on players that are neither here nor there. gerrard is gone, sterling is going, and whats the news coming in? Milner….?? whaaaat? Milner and Henderson to boss their midfield next season….nice one. Balotelli was a disaster, sturridge is crocked….and rodgers remains in place. we here the excuses that he doesnt choose who comes in….really? he must at least give the final nod therefore he is still responsible as i can't see him allowing people to choose players for him and him having to take the blame. so all in all, it will be interesting to see what happens….i for one think with the availability of Klopp and Biesla and a couple of other top managers, this was the time to sack rodgers and start afresh ….

Yes! Funny enough I was just having this discussion with a Hammers colleague at work - you forgot to mention the marquee signing of Danny Ings... had a good season but swallows summer etc. and all that... The thing that really gets me about Liverpool at the moment is the amount of pure hatred outpouring from the fans and supporters and pundits directed at Sterling for wanting to leave and join a bigger club... Welcome to our world - and every other team who can't afford to keep their players from being pinched by the moneyrollers! How dare he not commit his future to a team who is in self-destruct mode with delusions of its own grandeur! WAKE UP Liverpool!

Balotelli was under too much pressure and struggled to live up to expectations for sure, but it begs the question why could west ham still not a player like him? There are 20 clubs he would rather go to than us. Why? The question is not about Balotteli and would we want him, it's more of the question on a long list of under performing strikers that might do well at West Ham, and why they would never consider us??

I think he's made some very odd signings, renowned at Swansea for getting them playing football, got the Liverpool job on the back of that, fair play got a second place in the league with Liverpool playing some good stuff and Suarez scoring a heap of goals, last season they were poor and didn't entertain and then he goes and signs Milner to add with Henderson, that's not a midfield of creativity there is it, really surprised he's done that given his philosophy, I would think a new goalkeeper was pretty high on priorities too along with a right back, Johnson looks like he's had his day, and a striker that will replace Suarez, Balotelli is basically a target man so that's another odd one. I think his decisions in the transfer market might cost him his job

I don't think he does have the final nod mate. As I said on another thread i think that clubs are now following the Abramovich route of who they think would be a good buy for their club. That's why their are all these Head of Recruitment roles in clubs now. It makes sense really if you think about it, the average time a manager stays at any one club is what 2 years? With Ferguson and Wenger the exceptions. They also were probably the last two managers to have full control over transfers. If the owners want a certain type of football or certain types of players for the fans, why would they want to give A.N Other manager £100 million to spend on who he wants. Take our own recent acquisitions. Allardyce brought on players that worked for him in his style. It was the same everywhere he went and part of the reason the clubs he left failed eventually afterwards. He went basically got a load of Bolton old boys in to get us up. Then once we were up he bought what he thought would be suppliers for the old Carroll and Nolan one trick pony. If that doesn't work, you then look at the bench and there has been no-one to come in and add a bit of flair, or creativity. We always had that as a club, even in recent years Benayoun, Berkovic, PDC, Joe Cole (first time around). They were bums off seats players. So it naturally would follow that the owners would try and get a player like that in again. As for Liverpool I think they're big problem is that they always used to bring a few home grown players in which complimented the foreigners. Again they were lucky to have homegrown players recently like Rush, Carragher, Gerrard, Fowler, Owen, Malby etc.. Rogers is a good coach I think the Suarez factor would kill any team IMHO.

That's probably a more sensible approach Betty I guess, I suppose you'd then have a coach rather than manager with a director of football identifying targets, then a change of coach doesn't mean massive overhaul to the team again, certainly wouldn't appeal to the older generation of manager though I wouldn't think

Good on Liverpool for sticking by their manager and principals.

Rodgers had an amazing season last time and was hailed as a genius. He has had a poor one this time round and he is a failure.

Personally, I'd say he is somewhere between the two. A pretty decent manager who tries to play the game the right way. I wonder how many would have liked to see him at West Ham given the chance?

They had some good glimpses of football during the season but not as many as they would have liked. Rodgers spent the Suarez money poorly and should be accountable for that, but he had his fair share of injuries as we did. And as we did he struggled.

Lpool have taken a big step backwards but I think under Rodgers they will take a step forwards next season. Maybe not as big as the owners want but an improvement on last season.
