Fearing the worse

Submitted by Enfieldhammer on Tue, 25/08/2020 - 22:46

I fear this season we will finally fall through the Premier League trap door & into Championship oblivion. Any further signings made will be last ditch deadline day dross. Last season proved the calibre of most of the players at West Ham are simply not good enough. In the 2 signings Moyes has made Bowen & Soucek they have certainly improved the squad. But reckless spending in the Pellegrini era have left us with our back to the walls. At present we are being linked with players like Shane Duffy from Brighton. Not a player who will improve us especially if Diop is to be sacrificed as reported. I thought young Eze at QPR would have been a shoe in but somehow Crystal Palace are in a better position than us. This player is a player we have been linked with for a while & would have been a great compliment to Bowen on the left. Why we allowed Fulham to land Antonee Robinson from Wigan for £1.9m is staggering. Another player which certainly fits Moyes plan going forward. Unless we can move the underperforming overpaid alleged superstars on, someone needs to get a tune out of them. If our plan is for Antonio to lead the attack we are doomed. He is one stretch away from weeks/months out.
With the first 6 games we have we could be down by October. Confidence shred to pieces. Below average squad. The club need to back Moyes & stick with him. I believe we could end up with the Everton Moyes if he is given a chance.

Dicks my man. I'm normally a glass half full type of person but i'm really struggling to find a positive here. At the back Fredericks at right back. Don't believe Moyes fancies him plus rather injury prone. Then Balbuena, another not wanted. Left back we have young Johnson who could fill in at right back but Creswell is getting worse and Arthur!!! So i'm thinking 2-3 defenders? Midfield is probably ok (until January). Bowen, Soucek, Rice & Diagana looks solid. With Fornels, Lanzini (if fit), Noble, Yarmalenko, Snodgrass & Anderson. Now another problem. Up front. Antonio & Haller. Antonio is not a natural striker and Haller is another who does not seem to sit well with Moyes & the pair of them are also prone to injury. So i think we need 2 strikers.
I think they will struggle to offload players & will wilt to Chelsea & sell Rice to generate funds. If we are to do a cash plus player deal the only player I think we should take is Berkley. Not as good defensively as Rice but has more goals in him. Or, will Moyes give youth a chance?

Oh dear, what a prediction, I'm with you Dicksy, don't want to sound like Julie Andrews on speed but bloody hell we've not kicked a ball yet! Anyone have any thoughts of playing without fans? Let's be honest, last season when the matches were going against us, you could almost touch the tension from the fans and I'm sure this was a contribution to the teams performance, perhaps playing in an empty stadium will remove that problem, I'm talking about the supporters here, the team is another matter! Anyway here we go again towards another season and to be honest i feel optimistic, but then again after being locked down for months and not knowing what day it is, what the bloody hell do I know?

I think we will be ok,I saw enough after lockdown to make me think that way! Grady is back which is a massive plus...dont think we will light up the prem but I see a mid table finish

Very tough start with most of the top clubs in our first 6 or so games and only playing the clubs that were around us last season well into the new season. The football was better our last six games of last season with a lot more passing and constructive football, basically the team were gelling at last so hopefully we will take more points off some of the top teams this time around and stay away from the bottom three early on.
I don't see a fantastic season ahead but we should be much better than we were last season, mid table or just above it maybe?

Eltham makes some good points but all speculation at the moment regarding player movements. I don't know just how interested West Ham were in this player or another, its papertalk or Internet garbage to increase advertising revenue. Personally I don't get excited now unless a sale or purchase is a reality. The first 7 games are difficult so dont be surprised that we are near the bottom.

Keeping Rice and Diop will to me feel like new big signings. I too am not to optimistic but only because clubs like Leicester and Wolves are now ahead of us on so many levels and are likely to win the "Everton Cup" (7th place). The Premier league is VERY tough, all clubs have money, at this stage before a ball has been kicked, we stand a chance of either winning the Everton cup or relegated but... that goes for at least 12 or 14 other clubs and thats what makes the Prem special!

We cannot start talking relegation already,we havent kicked a bloody ball yet!!!! I for one went on that we would come out of the lockdown and get spanked all over the place, but we didnt,Moyes got it right and would say it was a big learning curve with the players we have,Pearce coming back is a big plus,to sort out the lazy bastards like anderson, and put some metal through the team.

Not getting involved in any transfer speculation and I wouldn't get too excited about Diangana coming back seeing as Moyes only gave him 45 minutes on the wrong flank. Guessing Moyes isn't a big fan of him. Wilshere is nothing like the player he once was and Brentford yesterday went through our midfield at will. Lets just hope the saviour of last season (no it wasn't HOTY Rice) manages to keep the opposition out as well as he did in the games he played last year. Squad is hopelessly unbalanced with Bowen, Diangana, Yarmo and Antonio all favouring the right flank and only the big wimp Anderson on the left. Did anyone notice how he totally bottled a challenge for the ball yesterday. Struggled to beat a Brentford team without two of their star players and a rotten October fixture list. Safe bet on us being bottom by the end of that month and the rest of the season attempting to claw back lost ground. We're doomed. Odds on Moyes gone by Xmas?

Saw him play four games (all on the box) and he played both. Maybe just a coincidence that the games I saw he scored when on the right and when on the left he got subbed.

Well West Ham do not have the easiest of fixtures at the start of the Season. Even a team like Chelsea who gifted us 6 points last season, are a fully strengthened side this season with some big name signings. My feeling is that if the club let Rice go, it could be after the Chelsea fixture. Not sure if West Ham will be a mid table side, more like in the bottom five by December. Yes, Diangana does bring some pace and energy, but hopefully Lanzini and Anderson start to pick up their games. Well let's see if Abraham does make a move from Chelsea, although just on loan, as he could always get to be in the starting lineup, along with Antonio who is a constant threat to any defenders in the Premier Division. Antonio needs to fully recover in time for the start of the season!
