Will we be mentioned with 20 or more players this window, it seems like we want two sets of players with the amount we get linked with but I would settle for a decent striker, a decent right back and a good midfielder. Feel free to put any players we get mentioned with on here and we will see how we go starting from today.

the word is he is the new vardy if that's the case steer clear because when players get labels attached like that it normally means there not very good IMO...how many times have you heard he's the new messi/Ronaldo/dowie:-) only for them not to be able to cope with such comparison...watched last nights Brentford game to see what he was about but it was not a very good match to make any kind of judgement on.

that we have had a £10million bid turned down by Brentford....a lot of money for an untried player at this level move on now that's been turned down

well if we are going to get him it would be now because of such a bad defeat at burnley for sunderland yesterday I am sure he probably thinks what am I doing here there are plenty of offers for me to look at...as for the whole judas/traitor nonsense people spout just rmbr he was a kid when he put in that request the timing of it and all that but there is nobody here who has not done something stupid in life when so young...if he comes I would embrace his goals and cheer for him because this man is without doubt one of the best goalscorers of his generation.

I agree we must get Defoe and offer 7 million . Scott Hogan has been injury prone last two season so leave well alone. We also need a right back and a fast creative midfielder to do some damage. We lack cutting edge despite our efforts yesterday and Ayew looks pants to me.

Defoe is a proven premiership goalscorer ,even at 34 he is worth the outlay.Like 35 year old Ibrahimavic , still can compete at the highest level and I would welcome him.I have my doubts about Carroll staying fit,and I would be looking to get the most we can in the January window. If Westham keep him I would still use him as an impact sub ,a plan B.If the board put their money where their mouth is I would hope to see a couple of quality forwards come in as that is what the team is crying out for ,Napoli's Gabiadini looks the business, him and Defoe up front can repeat the Cottee and McCavennie impact

We need a prolific goalscorer yet he has been mentioned, and his goalscoring record is around one goal in every 4 or 5 games so lets hope not!!! What a joke!

ANTKB indeed Long has no great scoring record, Defoe is 34! £7m/£6m is far too much for a player we would get realistically a season and half out of, give that young lad in the stiffs a run out he is banging them in left / right and penalty spot. I would however take Defoe if the price was around £2.5m/£3m.

For me buying Defoe proves the board are small time. If they do we will be going through the same arguments looking for a mainstay striker again in June and still not sorting by August. The situation with right back and cf has been going on for what seems to be for ever and still no sign or them being resolved. If these players are not bought as mainstays, with good injury records and decent age in the next six months we will finally know it's as far as the board can take us! This season it should never have been necessary for us to go into another window needing a first team player to solve these roles! I'd argue that since g and s arrived they have never really sorted out the striker and right back positions how many years is it now? Right back has always been fill ins and cf has been a succession of wild gambles that at its best has given us to strikers that spend 6 months plus injured.

defoe is perfect for the January window- represents the short term and is very proven- I think we would get a 18 mths out of him and in todays money 6m is nowt - sign him now and start looking for big name CF once window shuts because who is going to flog a big striker in January, nobody - right back i'd take Tavernier from rangers or Christie from Derby(both attacking full backs in the cresswell mould)
