why did he take carroll off?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 04/02/2017 - 21:45

i was baffled by this to be honest. carroll had a great game again, he looked a threat hanging around the edge of the box always waiting for the cross to the far post. why did bilic decide to take him off at 55 mins? i know it was 3-1 but when you consider who we have on the bench..the likes of calleri etc what would have happened if soton had pulled in back to 3-3? who was he then going to bring on to try and get the 3 points back? i know its hindsight but i for one was astonished to see carroll go off so early and the 'shut up shop' started. i like the antonio carroll combo although i thought antonio wasn't very effective today at all. whats your view?

Carroll has always been one tackle or sprint away from injury. Made sense to me, Bilic was confident we could see the game out, so no need to run the risk.

Apparently he felt a slight tweak in his groin so was taken off as a precautionary and is fit for next game. Usually he plays on through these which is what makes him injured so much, Although groin injuries are the worst as so hard to tell when there healed.

Dont get me wrong ,hes a great asset to us but i dont rate Ant as highly as some ,his strength is his pace on the ball but a lot of the time when he gets involved in the fast short passing game he looks awkward +he runs out of steam a bit quick.
Does anyone else think Nobs has seen better days ?,he looks totally bolloxed after20 minutes

Agree about antonio. Carroll on the other hand if stays fit is outstanding. Work rate cannot be faulted. 20 goals in previous 33 games he has played in. Quality. Just got to hope he stays fit.

A tough game coming up against a very physical WBA next week so just precautionary albeit after 55 minutes. We are going to need Carroll especially defending from corners and WBA free kicks as well as his physical presence up front.
I think Bilic basically took him off and has put him in his cotton wool box saving him for next week.

Yes that's my take on it bondsy, also the fact he played a couple of days ago and may even have been ill as he was taken in a lot of fluids. I certainly don't feel he was injured.
