I must say the OS looked impressive last night under lights for the RWC 3rd place playoff between Argentina v South Africa...I'm looking forward to going to next Saturdays ( rugby league ) game between Eng v NZ. I can't see that game being a sell out but I think they will be a lot there...I'll up date you on what it was like next weekend..

Good stuff, Bonzo. Let us know what the atmosphere and noise levels are like. I've heard some great reports that perhaps allay the fears of those about playing in an 'athletics stadium.'

On a right sh**ty day ( at the start ) weather wise wearing my hammers cap and warriors shirt, I made the journey via train from Lichfield to Euston and tube to Stratford.

I got there early enough so I had a look round the Westfield and got a bite to eat there instead of hanging about outside. I must say I saw a few wearing the C&B shirts in the shopping mall. Time to head to the OS, I was trying to picture what it will be like with 1000's of hammers fans all heading the same way before KO.
After I get through the turnstile and I step up to see the pitch for the first time the old grey hairs at the back of my neck started twitching. The stadium is still in it's Olympic B&W colours but that's only cosmetic. I got chatting to one of the grounds men and he was telling me a lot about the current pitch and the one were getting next season ( best in the country he tells me ) as this current one will be ripped up after a speedway night ( ??? ).
The views for me were good, I was in the west stand by the corner 8 rows from the front, where the players come out ( square on ) at the west stand it is a way back from the side lines, I don't know if the east stand ( near the front ) is any nearer If we generate enough noise you wont notice the distance from the pitch, ( look at Wembley etc ) . The attendance that day was 44,393, there was empty seats the whole of the east stand was full, only up in the gods at the other three ends were there unsold seats ( I knew it wouldn't be a sell out ) Where I was the legroom was very good at the retractable stand also not too steep for the older folk walking up & down )
Most importantly I could here passing comments from our rugby northern cousins on how ( well , great & and fantastic ) the OS is...When we pack it I think we've got a great stadium, and thats coming from an old school hammer...
I know some diehard wont like the new stadium, I went yesterday with an open mind and I was happy in what I saw . For me it was hell of a lot easier and cheaper to get to from the midlands than driving down the M! / M25 to barking rd. I hope it's given you all a taster to what's to come ... ( blackpool hammer I'll email you some photos )

I purposely haven't tried to get to the rugby as I did so much homework on our new seats and would rather just turn up on the day of our first game as a special moment to share with my son, as I can't change anything now anyway! I think we are going to have really good seats where we are going to be in the OS.
