And that is what it was, our main play maker out injured it was always going to be hard. The break away threat wasn't there today. To me Carroll is a last ten minutes sub player. Good to see Song back he might fill Payet's shoes some bit, he can find the odd good pass. Mooses was playing well, couldn't understand why he was taken off. If we get three OR four wins while Payet is out that would be a bonus. That Kane pain is hard to take but the bigger picture is to finish mid- table or higher. Let's start with a win next Sunday

yep couldn't agree more , thought sahko played to wide Carroll needed someone a bit closer ,but lets face it he doesn't score enough goals . Payet is a massive loss and is going to hard to replace . its going to be a tough couple of months but we just need to stick in there .

Bit puzzled cathammer by your Moses was playing well comment? Not sure what game you saw? To me everyone played poorly, having said that bilic pretty much got the whole game tactically wrong! It all starts with us losing the midfield battle. Bilic didn't address that at half time. We needed a formation change. Carroll should have never played, he isn't mobile or skilful enough on how we now want to play. Sakho was a square peg in a round hole but was never changed. Reid and Tomkins never got any support from the midfield a head of them and after their first goal I hardly ever saw jenks and cresswell in the positions they need to be. That left both centre half so isolated they were effective a back TWO! It's okay critising Reid and Tomkins but they were trying to cover such large areas and so many players coming thro untracked they were just swamped. So what does bilic do? Does he bolster the midfield to stop this and get the full back to play a more disciplined game or play a different formation? No, he put 2 attacking players on when we can't get a foot hold in the game. Bilic needs to ditch the idea Carroll can be much more than an impact sub. He also needs to address our poor defensive full backs and make sure the positions that need to be disciplined stay disciplined and we can keep our shape.

Defensively awful and weren't being covered by the midfield at all. Jenks is a shadow of the player he was revered to be last season and Tomka was all out of sorts. Nobes , bless him, was like a fish out of water without DM running it for him and Handicap Carroll was a misfit from the KO.
WBA next weekend. Need to get in the winning way ASAP

As much as we hate to admit it but Spudz were better and are the real deal. Just one defeat this season where as we have been caught out by Leicester and Bournemouth at home and naive at best against Watford. Its also clear that their acadey is better than ours when you realise that Nobes and Tonks were our only representatives of our system and were both poor yesterday. Our defence is shaky and prone to at least one killer mistake per game. We are fine with Payet in the ranks and can afford an attacking approach. This is not the case now for 3 months and plan B needs to be realised asap. But please, its not the end of the world, we are better than last year and Bilic will learn from this. Bring on the Pulis Kick abouts and we will get a result against WBA, this is a better barometer of how far we have come... Keep the Faith, COYI's!!!!!!!!!!1

we played too deep also and should have been higher up the pitch we have to get players closer to Carroll if he is going to influence the game , We need a fit Alex song in the middle of the park , noble and lanzini got a bit over run in midfield . but Bilic is a decent coach and he will have it sorted im sure . but I don't think hes very comfortable with playing Carroll who really doesn't give us a lot of options up front .

yep your right burkie , I think we just got to grind out a few results and keep our heads , but if he plays Carroll hes got to get players around him or goals are going to be thin on the ground

Face it. We were outplayed all over the park but despite that, all 4 goals were preventable with basic defensive discipline.
Tomkins was poor all game, Jenkinson was not tight enough for the first, Reid was at fault for the 2nd and 4th and if you look at the chances they missed it could have been far, far worse.
But the main problem I have is that we were far too open in the 10 or 15 yards in front of the box, and that left the centre of our defence exposed.
I know that you lot will kick off when I say this, but it wouldn't have happened under Sam Allardyce as we wouldn't have been that open.
Tottenham have their best side in years and we weren't at the races today.

don't disagree that we were outplayed mate, and that the goals were defensively poor and maybe your right that this wouldn't have happened under Allardyce , but under Allardyce we wouldn't have won at Man City , Arsenal , and Liverpool .Billic will always try and win games and good luck to him after watching years of dross under certain managers I think he is a refreshing change , I agreed we got well and truly turned over today but we didn't have our best player and Spurs had theirs . if we can get Song match fit he will be a massive player for us . We have some tough games coming up so lets keep the faith

Why the link back to Allardyce who masterminded a 6-2 defeat against Everton and whose team have conceded 10 goals in the last 3 games. today was nothing to do with the defensive formation it was just piss poor defending and players making basic errors.

I think it's unlikely we'd get spanked 9-0 over 2 games offering zero defensive and offensive capability under Bilic like we did under Allardyce. And let's face it he's not exactly setting Sunderland alight at the moment so I think we can consign that era to the dustbin where it belongs and look to the future. Sure a poor performance agst Spurs and not the first performance that has failed to satidfy so far this season but there are a hell of a lot more positives to take at this stage than there were at any time under the previous manager.
I'm gutted by the result and the manner of it particularly considering the opposition but tbh they're undefeated since the opening day and look a bit more polished than we do. But then they've spent years investing in the team to get it to where it now is so no need to think we've made the biggest mistake in history by letting Sam go as a certain S. Parker has alluded to. Let's keep the faith and hope the team learns from their mistakes this week.

of course we were but not because of formation. we lined up with kouyate and noble playing in front of the back four - my point was that the players did not do their job and gave the ball away needlessly plus failed to get tight to the opposition- having allardyce, pellegrini, or even van gaal would make no difference when the players don't do what they are supposed to on the pitch.

Spurs were a much better side than us. They didn't allow us much time or space and were in our faces for much of the time. Yes poor defending cost us big time but we were overrun in midfield, Carroll was static and Sakho out wide doesn't work. Not sure what Bilic was attempting today but he seemed a little clueless. Antonio should have been used for goodness sake. Jenkinson and Cresswell are poor defenders. Even Reid and Tomkins looked poor though support was short in coming. Ogbonna should be given a chance now and hopefully Song will play a greater part. It could have been a worse score but we lacked impetus or any shape. We need to compensate for Payet's absence. Hopefully Bilic will have a plan as it didn't work today. How disappointed I feel after that performance!

Absolutely ed ,they closed us down nearly every time ,and to make maters worse with the exception of Manz peach of a goal with 15 minuets to go they couldn't give a toss ,i know we are going to get slaughtered like this once in a while ,but this bunch of fags ?, hurts bad
