Not sure if I'm seeing this through C&B tinted specs, but I seem to have a different take from every pundit and report I'm reading on it.
'Long ball punted up field, headed down back of the net', seems to be the view on it but for me it was a beautifully executed move.
Now Cresswell's cross field ball was inch perfect and the pass you look for if you have a big target man. He looked up, and put it on his head. Feck, if that had been Beckham a few years back, the commentators would all be blowing their wads and patting each other on the back as if the messiah had parted the red sea. But it's West Ham and Cresswell's not an England international for some unknown reason, so it's a hopeful punt up field right off page 1 of BFS's football tactics. (That's a 1 pg book btw)
The knockdown from Carroll is outstanding, beating 2 defender's to the ball, a lovely flick from Sakho, that again, if Messi had done, you'd think they'd been a stag party in the commentary box judging by the wads of kleenex. Payet is right on hand as all top quality players are and slots it beyond the keeper.
I sat and watched the goal about 50 times last night (kept rewinding it) and fail to see how it's a route 1, hopeful punt. Looks wonderfully crafted to me.
Anyone else?
I know what you mean mate
I know what you mean mate guffaw luv your outlook M2,that weren't an ordinary punt across field, cresswell targeted that for carroll inch perfect, beautiful well worked team goal that!
Yep agree mate!
Ive been so busy at work this week only just caught up with the highlights!!The 3rd goal was sublime, like you say stan-inch perfect cross from cress, special mention for carrolls head down to sakhos superb flick to GOD-(dimitri!!)...
Not quite sure what the bluescouse are whinging about-"Hoofball"...
Let's hope we can re create
Let's hope we can re create that goAl at Wembley if we beat manure. After being pulled out the bloody hat against the scousers again! Be sweet we knock both scousers team and manure on the way to winning the cup.
All three goals were inch
All three goals were inch perfect crosses aimed at our front players who were there in force (Carroll, Antonio and Sakho) not long punted balls sent in hope as they nearly always were when you know who was in charge last season!
Had to laugh at some of the Everton fans sites today who were all saying how lucky we were to take three points with our long ball tactics!!!!
And heres one of them toffo fans commets!
If Mirrallas hadn't been sent off Everon would have won easily on Saturday they were still the better team with 10 men West Ham got lucky got all the big fellas on and lumped it in to the box every chance they got even tried the old Stoke long throws couple of times
They just can't take the fact, not only do we nick their target players nowdays,we can nick a game from under their toffee noses too,i bet if di canio was playing em today,he wouldn't be catching the ball for Fair Play
So true, M2C
The point about Beckham is spot on. What a wonderful ball that was from Cresswell. Hopeful? A hopeful ball is a long ball into the box with no one in particular as a target -- and yes, we saw enough of them last season. This was a cross on a dime. Carroll's flick to Sakho was great and Sakho's backheel to Payet was outstanding. And the Goal? Damn if it doesn't look like Payet nutmegs the keeper. Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but it looks like that to me. Cool, calm, sure finishing at 90+ by our man Dimitri Payet. I just don't think they understand!
