No Snooker Pun Intended But Hendrie Is Back In The Frame

Hamilton Accies left back Stephen Hendrie has flown to London to hold talks with West Ham. Hendrie is out of contract at the end of the season and the 20 year old defender could agree a pre contract deal to join in the summer. Accies vice chairman Ronnie MacDonald (again no pun!) last week criticised the Irons, claiming that a transfer fee in excess of £2m had been agreed. He said Hendrie agreed terms but that West Ham did not complete the deal. MacDonald was less than pleased because a fee had been agreed with Crystal Palace for Hendrie, who is a product of the Accies' youth system, before the Hammers hierarchy had shown an interest. The Scottish Premiership outfit had been keen to sell during the January transfer window, rather than wait until the summer for the compensation that they will be entitled to because of the player's age. However, it now looks likely that the Scotland Under 21 international will remain at New Douglas Park for the rest of the season. Hendrie, who had also been linked with Celtic, made his debut for Accies aged 16 and has made 97 appearances for the club.
The impending arrival for the Boleyn's final season of a fine young defender with already plenty of experience is something west ham fans can be excited about, as opposed to signing injury blighted 30 year olds with no sell on value. Enough said! -Ed

yep would much rather a future Scottish Intl rather than an over the hill Scottish Intl who would likely spend more than 70% of his time in the treatment room!! Let's hope the wanted 3.5yr 60k a week deal has Sully telling said Intl "head for the high road boy" and telling Sam to stop looking at mate's for Nolan

by the sounds of it.....will he pass our "stern" medical though? or will it be another "tick-box" exercise. This signing baffles me........we will soon have the slowest midfield in the league: Nolan, Noble, Song & Fletcher......mmmm, not sure on this one. Hendrie, though, looks a great signing.....good price too !!

Time will tell, but he could be useful. Just hope he's not a simple "run-and-cross" type of back. Jenkinson has shown shedloads of talent and initiative, crossing, defending, innovating. Creswell's been great too, but not quite in the same breath as Jenks. Would like to see Hendrie develop into an all around fullback.
