It's mid boggling really but he didn't actually say happy with 5 points just wants to beat last season's total of 46. Still if he thinkgs 4-5-1 is attacking with Nolan in the team then that MRI is long overdue!

“We’ve scored more goals than we’ve ever scored and we now must push on over the next seven games to get more than 46 points, which is our best total from year one, and if we can do that by continuing playing like we’re playing then we’ll go on and do it." I think people have overlooked what he actually says and took more from a generalised summary when it states "He wants to pick up 5 points". You can clearly see in his statement that he doesnt actually say that

The wheels started to come off when Sakho did his backho in the first international break. Then all the partnerships started losing continuity, and we've had Sakho, Carroll, Sakho, Valencia, etc. out of action. Reid gone for a while too, and Tomkins out for a while, with Collins missing a few too. Song went off the boil a long time ago, Jenkinson had an injury, and Downing hasn't been effective for quite some time. So you see where I'm heading with this. But other teams have had problems too and it's the manager's job to deal effectively with injuries and loss of form. About Carroll, partly I agree with you and partly I don't. I think he is a good player, and I agree with you that he was starting to form a partnership with Sakho. But I think AC is pretty one-dimensional. I really haven't seen him be able to play the ball on the ground very much or very well, and while he scored a couple with his feet (one a cracker), most times its the header that he's looking for. Other teams have worked out how to play him, and Sam has not responded in a way that gets around that.
