i watched england against nigeria. i have to say that to be fair, we look quite good. Southgate to his credit has ditched the rooneys and we've got some decent young talent. Kane, Ali, Sterling look like a good 3 in attack and southgate has shown that he is flexible with his formations. keep expectation low and we might do o.k.
Also on the plus side
Nobody (yet) has come out with the normal line - "we will win the World cup you"ll see!!"
You obviously didn't see
You obviously didn't see Harry Kane's comment recently!? There's always one plank of wood that comes out with the line and he did. Not surprising really though as he's not so much thick as two short planks, more like the tree they were cut from! https://www.thesun.co.uk/world-cup-2018/6354352/harry-kane-england-can-w...
Nope didnt see it before
I suppose if einstein says we will win it who are we to disagree!!
Should make it out of group stages.
Too bad not in group H, by far the easiest. Wouldn't predict an upset v Belgium, but you never know -- despite great talent Belgium are great underperformers in the WC. Once into the elimination rounds it's too hard to guess.
Bleedinel ashes ,you mean
Bleedinel ashes ,you mean theres an easier group than Algeria and Panama
Tunisia, Algeria all the same
Tunisia, Algeria all the same. Crap!!!
Could be worse, we could be
Could be worse, we could be Germany.
Amazing we will actually not
Amazing we will actually not exit a tournament at the hands of the Germans. How refreshing
At least we have a bit of football
To watch, now the season has finished
Sterling and Stones a major worry!!!
The biggest worry has to be Sterling (no England Goals in 19 games according to the match commentary) and Stones in defence with his continual blunders. Otherwise good to watch and always promising a goal with excellent passing these days and quick attacking football especially on the counter attack.
Sterling is fast, good in the middle with the other players but fails every time in front of goal and why Stones has to stop and hold the ball before passing it as the opposing player is almost on him is unbelievable and basically stupid. Last 16 out of the group and maybe last 8 but will have to be lucky to progress any further.
Agree with all your player assessments, Bondsy.
I'd like to think England can make the final 4. The trouble is that the path to the final four leads through (probably) Brazil and Germany. So if they do get that far, there's no reason they can't win it all. But let's see how they look against a team in Group H first.
England 2018
.
well said
Ali will get sent off 100% nailed on
Lol!
So i take it you dont rate our chances then Timmy!!;)
.
.
We'll most probably win it
We'll most probably win it with 3 spud players involved,i can see it now harry claim lifting the cup by his chin, sorry but that would kill me.
Does anyone actually want
Does anyone actually want England to NOT win? Seeing HK lift the trophy and then having the Spuds bang on about it for the next 60yrs!! Not for me. I'm unsure how I'll react to watching the England games tbh. Having given up on friendlies many years ago and been awestruck at the complete ineptitude of multiple managers and teams in tournaments since my blood pressure has barely raised a beat when watching "competitive" games. So if England do well will I cheer or just wait for the expected failure to kick in as usual and not be disappointed.
Apart from Sven, in recent
Apart from Sven, in recent years id say its less ineptness from managers and more lack of quality in englands team.
You have been down under too long!!
I have always been a patriotic Englishman and have always cheered on England though I must admit that passion for the team has dwindled over the years!!
Yeah, although I haven't
Yeah, although I haven't adopted their game with the funny shaped ball. I dunno, maybe it's trying to deal with two teams that constantly let you down that gets to me and it's time to sacrifice the England team and stay focussed 100% on WH. Of course the news on Lanzini has just ruined next season completely so I might try hibernation!
Bad news on Lanzini
Is it another Dean Ashton situation for us?
It's exactly the same
It's exactly the same situation. I think we left the curse behind at the Boleyn but as Sully's our owner someone thought we deserved another one!!!
Yes I don't want them to win
Yes I don't want them to win,for the same reasons as you all.I could not bare the late great Bobby pushed aside by by the spitting Kane and the rest of them. They would certainly rub our noses in it,and our history would get sunk, just like Upton Park, and all our memories.
It is I know, but they are
It is I know, but they are always banging on about being a bigger and better club than us,always finish higher than us,and to take our legacy of winning the world cup is just too much to take, they are not having it the tossers lol!!!!!!!
Im with you dicksy on this one!!
I even texted my spud mate after the game "Good old harry Kane!!" jeez what was i thinking??but they are england players & thats as far as it goes imo...i cant stand the little shit dele ali normally, but hes ok in the 3 lions shirt for me!!lol
Did anyone hear fabregas on
Did anyone hear fabregas on tele? He owned Spurs! Said Harry is now good enough to play for one of the big teams! Well it made me chuckle
Hes switched on,and knows
Hes switched on,and knows what a jumped up club spurs is.
I've changed my mind. COME ON
I've changed my mind. COME ON ENGLAND!!!!
Under 15 Under 17 under 19
Under 15 Under 17 under 19 England teams all winners or runners up at major tournaments in 2017/18. Under 21 also winning and doing well at major tournaments England senior team absolute crap with past it players like Rooney in the team and pretty awful tactics with managers all trying experimental systems rather than sticking to tried and trusted ones which got them the England managers job in the first place.
Southgate is different, he plays one system which his youngsters have taken on and we actually look good. Good enough to win the World Cup this time? no imo! but just maybe in a few years this crop of youngsters will come good but not yet! I remain eternally hopeful that at last we have a manager like Ramsey way back in 1966 who will keep it simple and hope that we do well this time (last 8) and go one or two rounds better next time.
Agree with that Bondsy
The youngsters as youve stated above have done amazing in competitions recently & they seem to play like they enjoy it,id like to see them all kept together & see what happens in the next few years
Keep the expection low and we might do ok!!
Might do ok has already risen my expectation through the roof, they'll be home in time for pre-season and you're to blame. I thought I had my expectations under control but oh no Dicks and his "ok" has ruined that for another four years. Damn your eyes sir!
Sorry to say this but
Im a little bit optimistic. Saw some good stuff against Nigeria and CR. Southgate has them playing a nice brand and steady formation, never underestimate a quiet man! Oh, and sorry for also saying this, we have a blond cockney as a captain.... maybe, just maybe.... COE!!!!
I think Southgate has done a
I think Southgate has done a good job with some ordinary players. Couple of baffling decisions in his squad most obvious to me being Delph! But I don't expect us to go any far either.
only a couple Red Neck
try Cahill/stones/delph/jones/Henderson(ffs)alli I'm a walking redcard
Hate to say it Mac but I
Hate to say it Mac but I WOULD take alli. Bit of a snivelling creep and yes a likely red card but I'd still have him in the squad. As for the rest I'd say pretty much spot on.
I thought Delph looked
I thought Delph looked alright and disappointed that he now has a higher profile because I was hoping City would off load him to us! Versatile midfielder, English and great replacement for Noble.
watched England v Tunisa on a flight to Dubai
Amazing technology: live football at 40,000 ft and 600 mph. I felt exhilirated. And part of that was the style of football. Many of the WC matches have been dreary. Teams have been allowed to play the ball out of the back with no pressure whatsoever. Watching England was like watching a good EPL match. I haven't seen England play with such spark since Michael Owen flipped Brazil in ... when was that exactly? Even though the match was tense; even though it looked destined to stay at 1:1 despite an intense, sustained barrage -- despite all of that England were ENTERTAINING to watch. They played with their hearts on their sleeves, the played to win, they played to impose themselves on the opposition. Portugal:Spain was a thriller. Mexico:Germany was an inspired match. But England:Tunisa has been my favourite so far. And I hate to say it, but Harry Kane is incredible.
Second half was terrible viewing...
We should have been out of sight first half if people like sterling, lingard etc didnt trip over their feet!!but positives they kept going & fair play to Kane,i like southgate as a manager as well -no dramas just gets on with it!!I would have loftus-cheek to start instead of young & either rashford or vardy in place of sterling...
England 2018
I still see too many backward/sideways passes, drives me nuts. Forward he cried from the rear.
WHOAH!!!!!!
England unstoppable. Bring on Belgium -- will be the match of the tournament.
Ha ha. The bench did nothing today.
The thing I didn't understand was that they had the goal difference to top the group but didn't fight to retain or re-establish it. Now they go into the match against Belgium in a dead heat: 6 pts. 8 for, 2 against. England ahead right now on fair play, so they currently top the group. I guess it doesn't matter much, as Group H looks very weak. All eyes will be on the England-Belgium match.
Well.... nearly at West Ham
Well.... nearly at West Ham having michy batshuayi or as my Chavski mate calls him... Batshite :o) Scoring goals for Dortmond but shocking performance for Belgium
I know it was only against...
Panamas wrestling/football team but TBF england are playing with a belief we havnt really seen since the days of el Tel!!
Lingards goal was the best in the tournament for me so far...much bigger test against belgium but we are already through so can play without fear,Bring it on!!
agree.
lingard's goal was a cracker!
so boys whats annoyed you during the world cup?
It may surprise you but having women commentators on the matches has really got on my unmentionabals...I'm sorry it just does not work for me....its not a B*T*H thing lol its just not right...as for the var well after the Portugal game yesterday I think quite a few questions have arisen over the time it has taken to get the so called decision right and they still got it wrong if that was a penalty I'm a bullfrog!
1. The diving and theatrics
1. The diving and theatrics as always. Seriously I think they should be named, shamed, banned and beaten for the embarrassing behaviour.
2. Inconsistent with the refs and VAR too. Start dishing out retrospective yellows for diving and it might start changing. Ignoring it and it'll continue. Neymar's dive in the box for one. Ref gave a penalty. reviewed it, revoked it realising he'd been conned. Where was the booking for simulation???????
3. Germany.
1,Linekar. 2,Linekar 3
1,Linekar. 2,Linekar 3,Linekar
Germany out..
We have a chance now
England v Belgium: both will try to lose.
The draw favours the second-place side in Group G now that Germany are out. Beat Japan, Beat Sweden and you're in the quarterfinals. No Brazil. Probably face Spain in quarterfinals, but at that point, it's anyone's bet. And who knows, Spain might fall before then.
So what happens when both teams want to lose? Guaranteed draw.
England win a penalty shootout!!!
Well, I can hardly believe I said that! For times, England were by far the better team, but Columbia always looked dangerous when they had a chance to attack. I was very wary of a goal against the run of play. Then Columbia started playing dirty, and the match threatened to get out of control. I thought the whole team should have been sent off. Definite penalty, well taken by Kane. But England played into Columbia's hands -- it seemed to me they got into the gamesmanship themselves and they stopped attacking like they wanted to score, instead gaming to get set pieces and hoping they could get someone sent off. You really have to go for goal; it's the knockout phase. Those tactics came to haunt them when Columbia rifled a shot from 30-35 yards that Pickford had to make a great save on. And it wasn't enough: the ensuing corner led to a goal (Trippier, I think, should have managed to keep that out.) And so it went to penalties. And how many times have we seen that. Then Hendeson went weakly to the right and Osina guessed correctly. Mid-height, fairly easy save. I honestly thought it was all over at that point. ... Well, you all know the rest. The curse broken, the quarterfinals ahead. A tough, physical match with Sweden looms, and if England make it past that, it's all to play for. Wow!
