Saturday was a day of celebration as the club honored long standing servant Billy Bonds by naming a stand after him, Bonzo joins other West Ham greats Sir Trevor Brooking and 'Sir' Bobby Moore by having 'his' stand. Having played a record 799 games for the Hammers once he had signed from Charlton Billy Bonds assumed legendary status with the 'eyes of blue, six foot two and he's after you!' chant.
A two Nil victory over in form Newcastle was the icing on the cake as Hammers cruised to what became a comfortable win courtesy of a well taken header from Declan Rice, his second in four games, and a cooly taken penalty by Mark Noble. The visitors did give it a go in the second half but rarely threatened the rear guard who performed immaculately even when Aaron Cresswell was forced off through injury, so all in all a good day to be a Hammers fan. Or so you would think, however a bunch of 'well oiled' fans nearly ruined the day as they sought to 'take on' the security staff who wouldn't allow them to go up the stairs in areas that their tickets were not for.
This form of spectator migration was common in the early days at the London Stadium, as hordes of supporters were able to 'roam around' the Stadium without sanction, many just wanted to be surrounded by like minded souls. This season there have rightly been restrictions put in place, and generally they have caused little issue save to people who have changed seats but were wanting to see where there founder names were originally located.
This afternoon's 'incident' was dealt with swiftly but it had all the hallmarks of an ugly event, thankfully nothing really significant came about although there were a few punches thrown and a bit of wresting going on, nothing compared to the bad old days of the seventies, never the less it was not an image that the club would like to perpetuate especially given the large amount of young fans present.
We did film the fracas, but unlike many think these issues should be dealt with in house, so sorry Sun news desk, we won't be taking the £250 that you offer for incriminating images about West Ham, you know what you can do with your twitter account don't you?
Billy, Billy the chant rang out, if he'd seen these little herberts misbehaving he would have given them a piece of his mind, and probably a bit more! - Ed

Well said Stan
If i was there yesterday i would have had a bit of grit in me eye!! As a kid growing up watching westham Brooking & Devo were idolised by us but Bill was the main man, absolute legend & i said it yesterday I'm no fan of this board but by making a stand after him they are starting to make amends imo
Yes dave they sure are
Yes dave they sure are amending there ways, class show they put on can't deny them that mate, and to be fair the bowl looked solid yesterday and i'd have loved to have been there, that guard of honour from bonzo's old pro's made me so proud for the great man,and the army holding and folding the bonds flag was magic.
Agree mate
I might not have an excuse now to not bag myself a seat in the William Bonds stand!!
told ya
get you there eventually 65... come and embrace the Popcorn :o)
jokes aside, unbeaten at the LS in 2019, not bad. If we can just Not Lose, draws or better against the top 6 and wins against the rest, particularly the seaside wasters, and make the LS a bit of a fortress. That 60K will then make a serrious impression. KTF!!!
As expected
I was mightily impressed with the reception for Billy Bonds.it does feel like the atmosphere is getting better, talking to my son today we said we would give it another go...I've got my half/half scarf ready & phone is on selfie mode!!
LOL!!!
As expected... you just knew I would react :o) TReally hope you go and agree that it is getting better :o)

As a seasoned rucker of the 70's and 80's in the West Side Upton Park right in front of the scrotes corner Southbank. I'm an old bugger and know it's not big or clever anymore. Oh the exuberance of youth. I know Bonzo would not have been impressed. Sadly although I was a little scamp back then, the thought of a new generation of wannabe dickheads, basking in old mysterious tales. Cos they think it's cool is sad.....
Nicely put, but reckon it
