I remember when under Grant we won 5 preseason games and everyone was talking Champions League. WE wont go down simply because there are 4 worse sides but it will not be pretty and I keep thinking back to the lack of progress over 35 years and where we would be if Sam had been kept in the job ? WE have done nothing since he left and spent millions if you think about it and for sure we would never be in a position of fearing going down

so who was better then and who has a better record? Look at the players he bought in to do a job , that actually did a job.

Admittedly he had to go in the end,but gave us the best season we had in a long time, beat the likes of citeh, liverpool etc...I dont get the fascination with sam,yes he got us up,but anyone could have got us up with the squad we had at the time & dont forget we scrapped through to get to the play off final, blackpool were better on the day as well....Sam's tactics & hoofball was bloody dire most of the time

The point I was making is we have not been any good for the last 35 - 40 years apart from one great season. No manager has built a squad/ team and no owners have ever invested money apart from the board we have now. How many other bottom half teams who have only finished 7th and below for the last 30 years would but two players last year over £40 million each ? Ok they may not have turned out fantastically but they did put their money in the business and that's exactly what it is a BUSINESS>.

Sam may not be the most whiter than white guy ever but was Harry, Grant, the last board members or even Mr Pearce now ? Sam would have built a squad and team to end up top 6 within 5 years.

My opinion.

Bilic was best manager we have had at west ham since Lyall, most passionate coach we have had since those happy days imo.now that was the next level, until the three wise monkeys took us to the morgue in Stratford, then it all went tits up.

I do see Big Jons point 65,we were a dogged team, not pretty, but dragged out results,Slav did give us the best season we had in years, but the BOM put pay to that, and its been the same since,in which now Sugo are lost for answers and it shows big time

But imo the chumps was easier in those days, didnt the mighty Reading end up being top!!Sugo have never really known how to deal with managers

Also Lanzini injured and Antonio seemed to have been hobbling a bit before being substituted. Yes, it was an embarrassing performance, and the Hammers looked like the relegated side, with Bournemouth controlling 3/4 of the game. They could have scored quite a few more. Well, yes, West Ham will be playing for scraps and will not surprise me if they finish last in the Premier Division. Of course, Rice, Soucek and Fabianski were sorely missed today.

Personally would not read too much into this rather meaningless encounter except to get players a bit fitter, remember the pre season under Avram Grant? The rest as they say is history!

Agree, Martin is a very poor keeper ,Haller just doesn't want to know ,Johnson isn't a prem player ,he was extremely lucky not to have been sent off ,which in a friendly is most unusual, cant see what all the fuss about Diop is all about ,Oggy was ok
