If I could leave West Ham I would!

Submitted by Enfieldhammer on Mon, 07/09/2020 - 13:21

I've followed West Ham Utd since 1975! Done the home & away bit. Had numerous season tickets. Like many others seen our club move from one disaster to another. Even when we were sold the dream & left our beloved home of Upton Park never have I felt this low as I do at present when I see what is happening to our club! Expectations are low. No hope going forward under the current stewardship. Being told we need to sell to buy. Not adding any new players to the squad who finished the last campaign. Now! Selling the family china for peanuts?
Even bloody Newcastle are spending. With the Toon adding Callum 'I love scoring against West Ham' Wilson to their ranks plus others. I do not hold much hope for 3 points on Saturday. Especially how Bournemouth were allowed to put 5 past us. Keeper apart that was probably our best back 4!
If we are honest we only stayed up as we got away with one against Chelsea & had Norwich. If Moyes was a real man & he's not short of a few quid. He should man up say how he can't work with what we have. Call Gold, Sullivan & Brady 'Cunts' and walk away!

Don't be too down. We are no better and no worse than we have been for 40 years and many clubs have to sell before they can buy...its a business and if it was a shop you have to sell goods before you buy new ones that's a fact of life.
The league positions never lie at the end of the year so there are still 3 coming up that are worse than us, then Shef Utd and Villa and maybe Burnley too who will be below us. The expectation is low but it's always been to high so expect a 15th or 16th place finish , maybe a win against a top 6 club and a 5th round FA cup exit..... or maybe top 10 and a final...the glass is half full for me and we are no worse than we have been for years.

Than anytime in the 50 years I've supported westham, big difference though is we have the dildos in charge & are playing football in a rented bowl of misery

OOOOH....Steady on Enfield you will blow a gasket,im 55 been going for 50 years, season ticket, cant remember the last home game i missed, its what West Ham is im afraid,im looking forward to the weekend, shame we cant go,though if we get spanked by the Toon,it will be just business as usual, and we then carry on with hope, but if we win,we dream of bigger and better things,we cannot do without Moyes now,he is the best we could get,and he needs to be given time to build a team, though i must admit the stumbling block is Sugo with their actions.

As I've said before, I think Sugo and the Wicked Witch were actually employed by the 'consortium of london clubs' and others, known simply as the 'Firm', to make sure once and for all that the soul of West Ham get's destroyed. The earlier 'Assasins' from Iceland failed in their task, and are now living in exile in fear of the future(s) with their families!

I honestly am not trying to be funny or abusive but why is the soul destroyed by the board? What was the ' soul' and what have they done which is worse than any before them ? We had Terry Brown and Storrie before and then the Iceland management and ALL did a worse job than the present board for sure factually and emotionally.
We left Upton Park because we really had to as a business financially.

I hate the London Stadium as a venue and I loved Upton Park. I have worked with Sullivan and Gold in business and both are tough but fair and do honestly care about West Ham but it is a business and they ( the same as everyone else ) will not invest in something they think will not at least have a chance of a profit which has to be right isn't it ?
I have been going for over 50 years and I think I am fair and reasonable as a person. I dont like some people but I have worked with them as you cant like everyone all the time but sometimes you have to step back and look at what you really are looking at and not what everyone else wants you to see. Be careful what you wish for.

I am trying to be honest. I did love Upton Park but if it had been my club I would have moved it years ago as it just couldn't survive in that model. Emotionally I would have stayed forever but as a company and to have a chance to progress we had to.
I agree the managers we have had have been very poor and we needed to build rather than look at instant gratification which never works... we needed to build like Bournemouth,Wolves, Burnley or Wycombe with a manger in place and a system for years and not 2 or 3 and fear.
We are all wise with hindsight but if the club is sold now to whoever I can almost guarantee it will end in more tears.

Leaving Upton Park for business reasons!! What sort of business venture was it then,as a football club on the pitch we havent gained or progressed,in fact we are worse off, nearly bloody relegated AGAIN,so the fact of the matter can only mean Gold,Sullivan and Brady have progressed their bank balances,we pay good money to see our team win, that dont happen,i certainly dont go to congratulate them on their profits.

Factually we have done well under the board we have now compared to other periods in our history like it or not . We have been in the Prem for 7 years now.... we haven't lasted that long previously and proportionally we have spent more of or income than ever before so what do you expect really ? Plus like you and me if in business, they are entitled to take profits which they actually have not done so I just dont know what people want and expect?
You , me and 59 998 other people do pay good money to watch every week, Totally correct . But do you watch to win every week as that has never and will never happen so take you choice as unless you buy the club you will never have a real say in what happens and what it does. I sat on the supporters board thing for a year and that was enough for me as the lub couldn't give a toss about supporters really as it doesn't have to and most supporters there had the IQ of something you find on the bottom of your shoes after a walk in the park...it was horrible and ugly and not worth the stress .

We are only financially better off because of the tv rights money, nothing to do with sugo.Upton Park could have been made bigger also imo,it just wasnt followed up.The dildos also pay peanuts for the rent of the b of m,

I understand people in business make profits, and thats what it is about, but this is a football club, and it is a game that supporters go to watch and yes,i do go in the hope to watch them win,not in the hope they lose which they do alot,or watch blokes in suits at there PCs earning themselves cash,we go to watch football,so lets not get away from the fact it is a FOOTBALL CLUB not J P Morgan,if i wanted to watch people like them i would go to some where like Canary Wharf, and cheer them on through the windows. We were promised of progression in the team on the pitch when we left Upton Park,it hasnt happened,we may of stayed in Green Street, for what progress we have made.Havent had to pay out for a new ground, only cheap rent,so where has all the money gone and the promises, its plain to see it where it hasnt gone,so if your not going to make the FOOTBALL TEAM a success, then sell up and let someone else come to do it,then they can go and earn their money in investments and stocks,if thats what they so desire, admittedly they did dig us out of a hole when they came, but they arent rich enough to do what they said they would do for the club. Its also not nice to put down some of the supporters really is it,we come from all walks of life.

I would never put down ' any supporter' . We are all from all walks of life and I personally am from the bottom rung so I wouldn't do that. What I said was people were making comments and judgements based on emotion rather than fact and you cant run anything on or off the field like that.

I would love it to b.e about just football and this beautiful game and I don't mind actually not winning if I think every player has given 100% and can do no more. Moyes and Pearce will never take us forward even if we had massive finances because they cant step up to the next level with players.
I don't think the club will be sold as I cant see why anyone would buy it and the only people that will be in a position to buy it will do so as a business and not because they love football.
We couldn't stay at UP as we couldn't expand the ground and without that we would go bust so it was a catch 22 situation . The debt that Gold and Sullivan and the Iceland banks took over was massive and the interest payments alone took more than the cash we got for selling the ground. It really is that simple.
I am not a great fan of the board at all , and their PR is the worst ever as they could have killed all the animosity very easily with communication but it's not in their nature to.

But where is the evidence about not expanding UP? I believe sugo said that because they knew that they would get the LS for peanuts without the financial cost of expanding, even weasel hearn said they got the deal of the century!! Why would we have gone bust if we had stayed at UP?I agree it needed a good lick of paint here & there!!;)

Hammer 65 no problem. There were several meeting with the local planning and a budget was drawn up in regards to costs at least 3 times to my knowledge . The capacity would have been increased by about 15,000 maximum for which the revenue generated would not have covered this in any way PLUS the chances of getting permission would have been limited with the biggest negative being who would pay for this as the banks certainly would NOT consider this with the debts we had then and the fact the extra revenue would not be cost effective. Moving to the LS was a no brainer on so many levels if you step back and look at it from a non emotional viewpoint.
As I said I don't like the LS but it really was the only choice unless we wanted to end up in the Championship and staying there due to lack of finances.

Exactly where we are now then!!!,no further,no finances, and the Championship permanantly looming,if we go down we will stay there,so not coming any further forward as a football team, stagnated,so who has gained, only those in it for the profits as you have readily stated, and thats why we moved,a money spinner for a certain few, they cleared the debts we could of stayed, but they wanted more.

Pretty much my reply mate...personally I couldn't give a monkeys if we were in the chumps or the national league!! I had a season ticket before stadiums became all seater, then still made it over the Boleyn 10 -15 times a season,my kids grew up watching the hammers, now I've been to the new place a handful of times & dont miss not going in the slightest! That's what me & my family have lost, that special connection with westham, cause of that is this board imo

They would have said anything at the time!its even on record the green st boy telling us no way would we move if the seats were further away than the pitch than UP....I'm convinced the only reason they took over westham & the debt is because they were 99% certain they would get the Olympic stadium....how did they pluck out of thin air the money for haller & anderson, more than meets the eye i reckon!!they paid pel & husillos a kings ransom because they thought they would get us in the top 6....where did all the money come from? Not only tv rights but revenue from ST sales, merchandise etc....they have more money to burn than they cotton on imo & as for being skint at the moment its only because they havnt had match day income all in all its all about finance for them

We are no better off & as you say, pel, husillos, haller, anderson all over priced duds...when we were at UP I couldn't care less what division we were in,the team was shite most of the time, apart from the odd glorious moment but the ground was ours, the community was ours...

Our outgoings are double that of Burnley and Bournemouth and our wage bill is several times larger too. If supporters wanted championship football and no money on players then we could have stayed . As it is supporters ' demanded' and still demand money to be spent...look on here , every other post is we should buy this player and that player. To pay nearly £100 million on 3 players is massive and a huge gamble....if the big 3 ( Haller, Anderson and Fornals ) has been amazing straight away everyone would be praising the board and they would be God's now and getting in a manager like Pellegrini at £7 million a year would have been the best investment ever but it didnt work out that way....

so the option would have been to stay an UP , go into liquidation , get a 10 point deduction and g down if we didn't already and be a Birmingham or a Wigan or a prime example would be a Sunderland.
The fact is there would have been demo's if we hadn't bought players, we couldn't do that unless we moved and I don't remember one voice of discontent when we spend £100 million . I didn't hear anyone saying OMG what are we doing I would prefer to be at UP but in the Championship or worse .

We are not and have never been well run with a great plan like Burnley , Wolves etc. We once had a great academy that produced top players but even then we couldn't break even.

If we had gone down I am 99% sure we would have gone bust. Its that simple. The wage bill would not have gone down more than 10% because of the contracts that were in place at that time and are still in place in some cases...crazy.
I agree with you that it was so badly run as a club, but it had been for years and years. I also agree the the Two David's bought the club to make a huge profit and took the gamble on us getting the LS for next to nothing which they did, but they also did take the risk which others wouldnt and they did invest their own money in it although unlike some owners they charge interest on too so will gain long term.
We can agree to disagree but the majority of West Ham fans/ people demanded we spend money and have always thought of the club as much larger than the majority of the Prem. Even today most would say we are a bigger club than Burnley, Bournemouth, Shef Utd, Villa, Palace, Southampton, Brighton,WBA, Leicester, and so on... the fact is we aren't. We could have been but I dont think there is a chance now especially with the virus situation which is going to kill us now more than any board member.

Brady was in one meeting I think but the point is you are 100% correct that they knew/ thought they would get the LS. Of course they did and of course they bought the club based on that. That is what a speculative investor does. I bought property in Stratford many years ago on the gamble there would be compulsory purchase orders in the event the GB got the olympics . It turned out well but it could have been a disaster so nothing wrong with that...exactly the same as betting on a match or horse.

The money for Haller and Anderson was a loan ( with interest) from them which is normal too. Lastly the accounts for the club are open legally so you can actually see exactly where the money is, goes and went. Brady takes £1 million a year I think but that is nothing compared to what she could take and others take at other clubs. The two David's do NOT take a salary at all. They get interest on their loans to the club but again could take a lot more if they wished.

They will only make big money if they sell and sell at more than £400 million which doesn't look good at this time in history.

I hear it every week home and away too but I just ignore it... what are we and what have we ever been ? It is what it is and what someone shouts means little to nothing.... We are all people and all the same. I used to have to listen to my fellow West Ham supporters screaming abuse at Spurs fans regarding their religion when I am of the same too...how do you think that makes people feel?
I am as passionate about West Ham as anyone but I dont go crazy over things I cant control and there are more important things in life ( just ).

I actually believe SUGO are trying to wing it until October when the window closes. Then do last minute deals knowing that the window is re-open only 2 months later. But the damage could be done.
James Tarkowski is not coming especially if Burnley want £50m.

I know a ball hasn’t been kicked yet and it’s frowned upon to be all doom and gloom, but you’re right. If i could walk away I would. My club has died, my predecessors club, the I supported as a kid and brought my kids up to support. It’s gone. I used to go home and away and now don't go anymore. I don't even bother with home games, as its too much agg with young kids getting to and from the stadium. Moyes nice enough as he is, like Pearce are yesterday’s men. No one else would employ him in the Prem. He’s had his time and now will take anything from the board, just as long as he keeps his job. It’s why they appointed him, they know this. An Ancelotti would’ve told them to stick it. I’m afraid that being a business is true, just staying in the Prem is the only target, so we have more of the same as last season to look forward to. Try and finish 17th or slightly higher, maybe nick a point or two off of a big team, and just survive. It’s not what was sold to me in the move to the OS, the lure of Champions League football, but that was all lies to stop the protests they thought would happen. Until they sell up (snd who’s gonna buy the club?) its just more of the same, bargain basement, laughing stock.

You make some good points and it’s refreshing to hear something a bit different.. keep it up!

I’m always disappointed when the same old same old is raised about Upton Park. It’s gone, we move on. The bowl of misery is what it is, but for me it’s all about the team on the park not the stadium. Hell I would support West Ham if they played at the Spotted Dog!

I think the stadium just detracts from a poor board, a number of weak managers and some bang average footballers on big salaries. We had a great last year at UP , it’s was the effect of a new bright young manager and a talented player the likes of which we hadn’t seen in decades... Payet!

up
38 users have voted.

I agree Payet made even the average players in the team step up that bit more as they always new there was a chance with him on the field and he needed to be managed as he was a pain in the arse and had zero loyalty at all to the manager, fans or even the board. A great player 75% of the time but a thick shit off the field who even after 6 months with West Ham was saying it was just a ' stepping stone' and he didn't want to be here.

I also agree re the stadium. The fact is the club/ business / institution needs a 5 year plan. I sat in a meeting 4 years ago when Angus said we needed to invest £3 million a year on kids and then should aim at having at least 2 home grown players in every first team squad which could potentially save us £10 million a year in transfers.... the others looked at him as if he was from another planet and even Slaven was not getting it at that time.

Most footballers are as thick a shit, just look at the two England arrogant little twats as a great example. Payet was really special, he was a game changer and these are few and far between.

Loyalty? Where? In football? You’re having a laugh! Board to manager, manager to players, players to fans.. none. Even fans to each other, I’ve seen more fights between west ham fans than against the opposition!

Spot on regarding investment on youth. Apparently our set up is really lacking in infrastructure and way behind even the likes of Leicester and Wolves.... so Much for the academy!

This is truly a club in crisis and it can only improve once the board radically changes. An American banker from canary wharf rides in on trusty stead ready to invest a billion and all will be fine!

Even with Brown and Egghead as owners there didn't seem to be all the trouble there is nowand towardstheend of lastseason I was only going to see my mates this boardhaverelyed on my loyalty for too long and if Moyes walks on Friday with Irvine, Nolan and Co. you are going to see a lot more trouble, and it it might shut GSB up all together- who is going to run the club then probably be Jack Sullivan hes doneall his badges you could see all this looming up when we sold Grady D. One thing I have heard is that FIFA got involved with Haller's late payment and told WHU that if it happened again There would be a transfer Embargo on WHU, and when the final payment- Sept! Remember these are only Rumours its the silly season like the one where Moyes and Brady were having a blazing row after selling Grady D, and Brady threatening to sack Moyes do you know what I would respect Moyes if walked out Friday night and dropped this board right in the brown stuff I'm with you Enfield that's why I haven't renewed either GSBOUT

And we all know that at some point during any season the team will put on a breathtaking performance and totally out perform one of the big guns but we all also know that will be followed by two/three months of absolute rubbish where we spiral down the league only to bail ourselves out at the death...it will never change in all honesty for some reason this club we love will always be flirting with disaster no matter who is at the helm
