The Reason For Benrahma Deal Stall

On the face of it, Said Benrahma's transfer from Brentford to West Ham should have been quite straight forward, or at least as straight forward as any transfer deal can be that is, however the deal hit the buffers and was postponed until certain 'details' could be ironed out!

We have learned the reason why the deal has become so protracted, quite simply it is all about money, and for once it s not West Ham United's fault! The two clubs have agreed with an amicable fee, and wages aren't seen to be a problem, so what money problem has put the deal in jeopardy?

A Loyalty bonus! Put simply, according to his contract Benrahma is entitled to a loyalty bonus for NOT having asked for a move to another club, the contract clearly states that if Brentford push for the player to be sold then he is entitled to a bonus for not being the instigator.

Mezut Ozil has just picked up a £7 Million bonus from Arsenal for the very same reason, and such clauses are common place nowadays. When Benrahma returns from International duty it is assumed that he will sit down with the Brentford hierarchy and sort out an arrangement that is suitable for all parties, the deal's not dead, it just needs serious surgery! - Ed

I never knew that, a ' loyalty' bonus!! Ozil got 7 mill....with all the covid malarkey & thousands losing their livelihoods this is just obscene.

I assume he wants to come to us. After all what player would turn down the chance of Premier League football? Theres a distinct possibility he could be the next Mahrez. I think he's got the talent so I hope we snap him up. I agree with all of the above regarding money, I know they are only looking after their future. But these sorts of things should be kept quiet, under the current climate...

Unbelievable, that a deal could break down like this for so many reasons. But something as messy as this at the 11th hour has got to involve a club like West Ham.
It's a game of who will blink first where both parties have something substantial to gain. Brentford's coffers will be bulging and Benrahma looks set to play on the Big stage (I take it that's what he wants).
If it is in his contract....Honour it! This payment should've been factored in when Brentford set the transfer fee...surely?

Well said Dartford,im nearly 56,that surely deserves some kind of notification lol, these football contracts and all that goes with it is sick, they make it up as they go along, ive worked my guts out today, and will never come close to this kind of money, unless the lottery rolls in.

I think Essex that they talk about the width of the gap between Chumps and Prem leagues based on money but I think the real gap is now between Players and Fans, they are so remote and so far up their own exhaust pipes that the fans are now invisible and not just during Covid. I remember in 1980 going to WBA in the 3rd round of the FA Cup (what a year!) and after the game stuck in traffic and still outside the Hawthorns, when Dev and Phil Parks came over for a chat before getting on the coach.... Could you imagine that today?

To watch everyones 2nd team the other day.alvin martin,Devo, phil parkes, david cross, tonka, stuart Pearson all talking about 1980,the Boleyn atmosphere, the relationship between them & the fans,Johnny lyall etc....heartwarming the difference between them & 99% of modern day players

They're the players I watched from the terraces as a teenager & they are still really fond of the club & especially the fans

I wonder what the bonus is? Probably about £100k. We should just pay it and get deal done. I'm dreaming of a Bowen, Antonio & Benrahma attack. That would give The Yids something to think about on Sunday!

Brentford could change their minds. Could keep the deal on the table but they could say to him, we don't want you to go so you can honour your contract and stay, we'll give you the loyalty bonus, but if you want premiership football now with West Ham take the forfeit. Didn't Payet get a loyalty bonus after signing a new deal, which Sully then demanded back before allowing him to leave?

But to be fair to sully he did insist on payets 'loyalty' bonus being repaid & maybe that's why hes stalling on bananaramas request...I've never had a loyalty bonus in the building game, the most you can expect is a cup of splosh & a biscuit or 2!!

None of them deserve a bonus, they get enough each week, only the likes of Noble,Sir Trev, and even Billy Bonds, forget Charlton he is West Ham through to the core.
