Why Is Tapping Up Tolerated?

Most fans are as baffled by how FFP doesn't seem to apply to the 'big' clubs as they are about the circumstances regarding the unfair 'tapping up' of players, again involving the 'big' clubs, there is legislation in the FA rule book covering the issue, unfortunately it was made BEFORE the advent of social media and it's ubiquitous spin offs and as such is no longer fit for purpose!

How many times in the last 12 months has the 'Declan to Chelsea' story been covered? Or more recently the 'Declan to Manu' or even the 'Soucek to Bayern' stories and rumours? The fact is that club's can use social media in a way that completely obviates the outdated current rules regarding tapping up, and it is very obvious that some, more than others, have invested heavily in social 'influencers', and we're not talking about fashion tips and life style advice either.

It doesn't take much effort for a club to surreptitiously begin a media 'drip' campaign based around their interest in a particularly targeted player, once upon a time a club would 'door step' the parents of young players in order to 'influence' their next club of choice. Now it is no longer necessary, all that has to be done is to set up a constant stream of information 'snippets', analysis of the amount of media attention that Declan Rice is getting shows clear and present pre-meditation of what is going on now, and until the rules governing the tapping up of players are brought in to this century, 'big' clubs will continue to prosper by exploiting (a) the weakness of the legislation and (B) the complete lack of enforcement by either the Premier League or the aptly named FA! - Ed

Totally agree!
Most of us would agree that the recent constant media leaks regarding interest in Declan (and of late Soucek) are an attempt to unsettle the players and get them to push for and effectively force a sale at a lower price, but at personal cost to the player's reputations (which is no big deal to the buying club).
Along with social media, these noises are like an amplified echo chamber and there is NO mistaking that this is modern-day TAPPING UP! As I have got older I have begun to realise that rules are for little people and little clubs... Biguns can do what they like!
The Ex-Pro's connected to these clubs are also part of this Tapping Up culture as they try to add weight to these leaks with their justified reasoning and inside knowledge.
Nobody could ever accuse the despicable Premier League or F.A of having Morals.

I am confident that Rice and Soucek will stay put at West Ham at least until the end of this Season. If West Ham continue with their form and eventually even manage to finish in the top four, then no doubt they will want to take West Ham to new heights. Just need one or two quality players in the January transfer Window.

Seen it all before, Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand are perhaps the three most obvious ones to have been tapped up by Chelski and Manure. It worked and for all three it made them for life as the Browns kept on selling our best players and replacing them with past it players or the cheapest they could get.
There is a difference this time round in that West Ham could make it into Europe and the likes of Man U and Chelsea may not.
West Ham appear not to be a selling club under SUGO unless its obvious the player wants to go and this season is perhaps our best chance of a top 6 finish. (new signings in January withstanding).
I said on here a few months back that Declan Rice should be given the Captaincy (not just when Mark Noble was not playing). Perhaps its about time SUGO gave him a loyalty pay rise and Moyes handed him the Captaincy now. If not and he is offered two to three times his salary at Manure or Chelski I think we all know what is going to happen.

A D Bonds

Man U are on a very impressive form. They are currently leading Leeds 4-1 at half time. Looks like they will be Liverpool's main challenger for the title, and definitely a top four finish. We have to see how West Ham stacks up to the plate against Chelsea, as it is a huge game for both clubs. The only issue is that West Ham does not have a deep squad, but are still capable of a treble. Rice will probably give The Hammers another Season if they finish in the top four. That is not mission impossible once Antonio is back to his full fitness.
