Hammers stalwart Winston Reid has moved across London to join Championship front runners Brentford on loan for the rest of the season, the 32 year old Kiwi captain had returned from his loan spell in the USA in 'good' condition but a bit short of match practice.
Having trained with the rest of the squad for a couple of weeks and having featured for the U-23's, Reid has proved he is worthy of playing games, but not necessarily at Barclays Premier League level so a move to the Championship will be an ideal platform for Reid to have notice taken of him for all the right reasons.
The fact that 'Winnie' has ended up at Brentford has raised some conspiratorialist's eyebrows, having supposedly paid Brentford off in advance for the transfer of Said Benrahma, some are saying that West Ham have somehow 'factored' Reid's loan deal into the equation.
Regardless of the machinations behind the transfer, the move should suit all parties, and IF Reid performs any where near the level he used to perform at Brentford may well wish to make the deal permanent. Either way Reid gets the opportunity to play week in week out, if he does well his value will have gone up when he returns from the loan spell.
All Hammers fans will wish Reid well during his time with the Bees, whether it be temporary or permanent. - Ed
