Well boys i woke up with a big smile this morning after last night and the football wasn't bad either! lol,but seriously what a well oiled machine we looked last night and the football was such a pleasure to watch if anyone asks what is the West Ham way point them to this match.

Every player performed admirably from back to front and that poor little boy Grealish sulking because he could not get out of Coufals pocket and with fredericks backing him up it was fun watching that divers frustration grow.

Lingard wow it has been a long time since a hammer making his debut had such a massive impact on a game but he was different class and his energy fired up our team to levels Villa just could not match, this girl was unsure seeing the line up before the game but maybe i should stay in the kitchen and cook the dinner and leave the footy managing to Moyes:-).

Soucek/Coufal on rather modest wages compared to others well i seriously hope in the summer before we do any spending that these two are given better contracts because you can bet your bottom dollar that the bigger clubs will be eyeing Soucek for sure.

Slowly but surely Moyes is getting rid of the disaster that was El Pels regime and installing much needed stability and a direction that this club can build on for years to come and if we keep playing football in the manner we have been of late he will shake off the last few years since his departure from Everton which saw him fall from grace in many eyes.

I was not around during the boys of 86 and comparing eras is always difficult but i am enjoying our revival and hopefully the board will listen and help Moyes build something very special that as fans we deserve to see so COYI lets push on and leave the spuds/chavski/gooners trembling in our wake.

Go along with all of that,I'm enjoying this season as much as any other seasons in my half a century of following the mighty hammers ( go on i know old git!!) A pity our fans cant watch the games,I actually think the LS would be rocking & could possibly match the atmosphere of the great days & nights of the Boleyn! After this pandemic I think it will,so strap yourselves in & enjoy the ride people

Im proberbly a lot older than you deluded and i cant remember west ham playing with more panache, more confidence and all round skill, sure mac was a superb player and Paolo could dazzle ,on his day Bonds was a player a manager could build a team around and Brooking ??? Wow ,but I've never known such style ,talk about improvment just look at Cress ,he was nearly on the list last year ,we've come from the proverbial soft touch to a team that many top clubs dred playing

And for a winning team I can't think of any team better than the class of 85/86. Even that lot didn't play the West Ham Way, a definition of the teams built under Ron Greenwood. The teams that took us, yes, to European glory playing the beautiful game the way it should be played. Yes the soft underbelly reared its head against the Blackpool's and the Mansfield's but I live through that all again against the shit that Moyes turns out. Moyes may well be the man for the moment, doesn't mean to say I like it. Efficient, maybe. Beautiful it ain't

Is it a million miles away? My definition of the west ham way is every player giving 100%,solid at the back & midfield, forwards attacking with flair & doing everything possible to entertain us fans. After mainly dross for years & years apart from the Boleyn last season this is by far the nearest team to the old west ham way imo

For Big Sam extends to the team and job he inherited, was the best man for the job and fulfilled his brief. Time has moved on but the style hasn't. Moyes football isn't much better, and that is with better players than Sam had at his disposal. Let's see where we end up at the end of the season before erecting a monument of Moyes outside the BOM.

The game has moved on from the West Ham way it's so much faster and pressurised. H is right, if the West Ham Way could still be defined these days he summed it up 100%. In the modern game, the West Ham way has had to adapt itself, reinvent itself. What we are seeing right now is as close to it as is possible, with results. COYI..

We have a blend in the team at the moment that shows skill and flare but with an incredible work rate and we as fans just love that!

I still think there's room for improvement (yes, I hear you, never satisfied) I would like to see the back three (center backs and keeper) improve distribution. The modern way is a high press and passing back to Les, Ogi and Fabs results in a hoof straight back to the opposition particularly if you dont play with a classic ball holding No9 ala Andy Carroll.

Ok... I'll get my coat

Lovely post hammergirl I think we all enjoyed that game. For me a past right and left back throughly enjoyed seeing Coufal keeping Girlish in his pocket and Fredricks doubling up on him as well. As for Linguard... wow I did not expect that. The slick passing from our front players with Soucek and Rice giving support was some of the best football I have seen all season.
Funny how it took the very biased Villa commentator who could not see further than what Villa were doing and Twoodles statements during the first half of how Villa were playing well while they had 3 shots at goal and we had 10. It took these idiots by surprise when Soucek scored in the second half and after the second went in from Linguard they finally gave West Ham credit, but hey we are used to all this. We also ended up with almost 20 shots at goal to Villa's 6.
Now age wise I am not far behind Burkie only a year behind him. I remember the boys of 86 and was a season ticket holder in the Chicken run. Many a time watched MaCavennie and Cottee destroying whoever came to Upton Park both scoring for fun. Our current team are different (much fitter and faster) but I will never forget that season when we came so close to winning the title. As for the West Ham way I don't think we will ever see it again, Ron Greenwood and to an extent John Lyall played the beautiful game but these days its about a strong defence, possesion to an extent and slick fast passing with front players who can all score goals.
West Ham are nearly there but not quite yet.

A D Bonds

Well said Bondsy, yes back in 86 i was seriously willing the boys to win the league, the times, players etc are alot different now,and as the time moves on further so we get a real vast difference to the likes of Greenwood and Lyall, but i am enjoying what im seeing now, even better still when the turnstiles open again.
