West Ham United's 'award' of a new 12 month contract for Mark Noble, has been seen by many fans as sentimental and not good business sense for a player who has notched up over half a thousand games for the club! Perhaps it is the previous regime's dreadful treatment of 'Sir' Bobby Moore that prompted the club to extend 'Nobes's' contract, but is more likely the fact that Mark Noble is West Ham through and through, to see him running out wearing another team's colours is almost unimaginable, and the player himself has no desire to go down that route.
Not a departure then, more a gradual easing in to a non playing role with the club, rather than a complete severing of ties. Having been the 'great donators' when it comes to over paying over the hill or perpetually injured players and their agents a king's ransom on a regular basis. The Hammers hierarchy would probably have renewed 'Marky's' £50,000 per week contract without too much difficulty, after all he IS the current captain, isn't he?
Well, much like when Kevin Nolan was captain under Big Sam, but Nobes became the true captain, Declan Rice has taken being captain on and off the pitch to the 'next level', and is destined to be the captain of England, honourably following in Bobby Moore's footsteps. Therefore 'Captain Mark' is going to be among the team on a regular basis, but will be used sparingly in Cup games and as a sub to shore things up in the closing stages of matches, and as such he doesn't warrant being paid any where near as much as his original wage.
We have been told, from a incredibly reliable source exactly how much of a reduction in salary Noble has agreed to, suffice to say, it is common knowledge that he has invested wisely during his career, and has a 'substantial' property portfolio that should see him and his family very comfortably off through the rest of their lives, and fair play to him.
So we would say to all the kill joys who are suggesting the club is 'throwing it's money away', check your facts first, and then comment! - Ed

Agree
Nev ,i hope he has a job when he retires ,say with youth teams,a great club servant and IRON through and through
Agree
Nobes gets an unwarranted amount of stick at times,a loyal servant to our club & imo he deserves another year so at least the fans will get to see him next season albeit not much, but at least hopefully he will get the send off he deserves
Here Here....
It never fails to surprise me how short some of our supporter's memories are. I know who the West Ham Legends are, and Nobes is one of them. The disrespect meted out to him by some of our so-called supporters has been disgusting at times. If EVER there was a player who needs to be retained by this club....it is Nobes and I think that it is nailed on that his association with West Ham will continue into the future, as some have said the Academy would be perfect for him.
Nobes a true servant,glad he
Nobes a true servant, glad he stays with us and finishes his playing career, though he has earnt well, even prepared to take a cut to stay,he must be the last of true loyal players.
I make you right..
I make you right on that one......... There aren't players like him anymore... Nobes is old school and I bet there are many die-hard supporters who would NOT have been as loyal as Nobes has been over the years.
Should definitely be used by the academy
he would show them what they can achieve with a passion and loyalty to the club and a bit of hard work, unfortunately now a days both those traits are in short supply by the lure of big money contracts.
This make me very happy
This make me very happy indeed. Could never imagine him not being around.....COYI!!
Noble deserves respect. He is
Noble deserves respect. He is a real hammer, a legend of this club. I would see it well in a job in the club to make young people understand what it means to wear that shirt
Did see a few on here saying
Did see a few on here saying he should go a while ago which made me post a reminder of what he still offers. Calmness in the last quarter, especially when we are defending a lead being the main one and his experience being second to none. He will be taken on as a coach if he wants it eventually but not quite yet!
Trevor Brooking was the last loyal player we had, Noble is probably our last, so give him the respect he deserves is what I say to the doubters.
