Championship side Reading have signed former West Ham United and England striker Andy Carroll on a short term deal until the middle of January. 32 year old Carroll who spent six largly unproductive injury ravaged years with the Irons had been a free agent since being released by Newcastle at the end of last season.
"Andy is looking for a new challenge in his career and we need a player with his quality and vast experience," Reading manager Veljko Paunovic said. Carroll could make his Royals debut against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but is a salient lesson for young players to observe with regards to looking after themselves.
Andy Carroll was destined for greatness at one time, if only he had settled down and looked after himself a few years before he eventually did, he might have fulfilled his potential. Instead Andy will always be a 'what might have been' which is such a shame because on his day he was the best header of the ball in Europe! - LN
