Cresswell's Moment Of Panic Cost Dear!

Hindsight is a wonderful but one sided thing, with the benefit of hindsight Aaron Cresswell would never have become the repeat offender that he has ended up, following yet another straight red in a European Cup tie, only this time it has cost the club dear, very dear.

All the club and it's fans hopes and aspirations for the ENTIRE season evaporated with Cresswell's moment of panic, it would have been better if he had just let the forward through and given Areola a chance to make a save, even if a goal had been scored it would still have left the team with an uphill struggle for sure, but at least there would have been 11 v 11 on the pitch, playing with only 10 men for three quarters of the match was always going to be mission impossible, and so it proved.

What a dismal way to finish what had been a glorious European campaign, the paucity of the squad didn't help matters any, but individual mistakes came back to haunt what was a brave attempt but ultimate failure. Cresswell hung his head in shame as he left the field as he tried to avoid David Moyes's acerbic look, the manager knew there and then that the game was effectively over and that the team were only going to be able to avoid a crushing defeat as opposed to having any chance of wining the tie especially as Frankfurt were able to go in 1-0 up at half time.

The dream is over, mid table is secured, but it looks as if the dreaded Conference league is the best fans can hope for, and even that might NOT be attainable, just like my dreams heh? - Ed

No Champions or Europa Cup next Season. Conference Cup is the best we can hope for.
But when I replayed the Cresswell sending off a few times, it seemed like Cresswell was going for the ball, except that he had an arm around the player. Did not look like he was pulling down on the player, but that dive was enough to make it seem like he did. If Cresswell did not wrap his hand around that player, we would still have seen that dive at the end. That individual was just pushing his body into Cresswell. To me it seemed like 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

This is the problem - we were on the cusp of having a great season and now despite all the highlights it's been reduced to mediocrity as if you look at the result at the end in the cold light of day, we won't be getting European football next season and will be finishing mid table. I'm not sure Rice and even Bowen will be hanging around come the transfer window. We needed this cup win to keep them with us and push on as a club. No one can argue the team have been great at times this season and shouldn't be proud of what we have achieved, sadly though in competitive football it's make or break and we just haven't done quite enough

I feel for Cresswell he was there fighting our cause, their player would of made more of it you can be assurred of that......and as for Moyes he was full of passion and frustration,at the way we were being treated, good on him, passion and guts is something we have lacked for a long time, but we have it now, thats why we have come along way under him........its down to sugo to dig deep for a striker, something they havent done!!!!

But stay the hell out of it. Moyes has proven time and time again that he will only play the players he wants not the players that the dildos buy. If Moyes can pick the players then back him don’t go behind his back and bring in what they think he needs let him decide, then I can see us improving.

Everton fans do wish that Moyes opted for their club after he was let go by West Ham in favour of Pellegrini. They have had quite a few managers and really though their club have shelled out some real big bucks, all we see is their struggle to stay in the top flight. Moyes on the other hand steadied a very rocky ship when he took over and yes, his achievements have been remarkable considering how West Ham have the leanest and one of the most aging squads in the Premier Division. West Ham have to try and take all three points against Norwich as there are two very trick fixtures in the offing against Man City and Brighton who spanked Man Utd 4-0 today. Could have been a much more embarrassing score for MANU!!

I get it that everyone is upset but lets just have another look.

Frankfurt were not great shakes and with 11 on the park I am convinced we would have got a result. Cress has been an outstanding servant to the club, yes two major errors but probably because he has only just past the sell buy. I refuse to criticize the lad, over the years he has been superb. I think more criticism could be made of others just not stepping up at the crucial time.

Lets just recall where we are coming from. Perennial favorites for the drop, yoyoing from Chumps to Prem, disastrous move to the LS, fans fighting each other, Payet, Arnie etc etc. last season we elbowed our way into the top six, we made a European semi for the first time in 46 years... we have come a long way, its not perfect but we are getting there!

62 years old, supported WH all my life, frustrated... yes but with us thats normal!!!

Chin up folks... life could and was a lot worse!!! COYMI's!!!!

As Boogerscaravan Jnr said to me, he shed a tear and said West Ham are still massive, he's 25 grown arsed man with 2 kids. I think it's a tremendous achievement this season semi finals of a major European cup and a top 10 side for the last 2 years.

50 odd years a fan and I'm the happiest for decades!!!

I get that we've got to a europa semi but really is it a prestigious cup?? Full of cheating foreign players, dodgy refs & plastic ultras....apparently 50 of the clints beat up 2 westham fans, brave or what!
But back to the football, just as moyes said the game was lost in the first leg after they scored in a minute or so & it made nearly 60,000 westham fans in this stadium go quiet as a mouse, sorry as a fan of 57 years i just don't get it!!
7th is an overachievement too, luckily wolves have been as pony as us lately. For me there's too much expectation nowadays & with the dildos in charge its only ever going to end in disappointment,Rant over

Well said 65,i agree with all that, the 50 second goal killed us there and then, ripped the guts out the club, players and fans alike,it was lost from then on....This European lot are proper cheats, awful people,no wonder Chelsea,Liverpool,Man City thrive, they are the same, play the same football, fall down as soon as you touch them,i wanted the FA Cup this year.......If there isnt any money spent this summer especially a striker,it will be below mid table next season, yes we have been lucky to be where we are,Bowens goals has provided, without him we would of been bollocksed very early on.

Is that what it's coming to? Before games thousands marching to a stadium, their 'ultras' basically being allowed to do what they want! If England fans behaved like that you would never hear the end of it.did anyone else of a certain age smell a bad whiff of nationalism from the germans? It was that bad I thought they were going to put a speech by Hitler over the tannoy....horrible fans imo

As always buddy I feel your pain, and for all my positivity Im still hurting, but you will probably know that.

Moyes was right, the game was lost in the first leg after they scored in a minute and yes, it has a real downer on60,000 westham fans in the stadium who did go quiet but I do get it. The West ham fan is not the same, its a new breed, its different. I give you an example. I have seen and heard some really cocky lairy Arse, Chav and Bar codes fans at the LS insult us in our neighborhood with little responce... in the past no one would dare in our manor of UP. Im not advocating violence but a bit of passion wouldnt go a miss!

7th I dont think is overachievement IMO. Wolves, and others, appreciate the Prem is VERY difficult, even the lower clubs have players that can inflict pain. We should have expectation and demands particularly how the fans are treated etc and yes, with the dildos in charge its far from perfect but honestly, can you name a football club owner that is better?

Rant over... never! You are proper Hammer and I expect more in the future... Keep the Faith!!!

That's exactly my point mate,I'm the same not condoning violence but back in the day no one would take liberties on our manor we were one big family & everyone stuck together at Upton Park. When i say we've overachieved I mean since January imo...hope your family are well Dartford all the best mate

...then put Deccers and Frederick on a YouTube stream, can't remember the name of the show, but it led on to Dec playing golf with Tubes...what a funny half hour or so of TV. A must watch and called Golf Life, you won't regret it...has some other very amusing guests.
Have a great weekend people. It didn't go our way this year, but we now know how it can be done; maybe a player or three or four in the Summer once the obvious few get their P45's

a thought but papers say Declan could be banned for 3 euro games that will surely reflect on any bid for him may be better for him to stay at west ham !!!!!!

Throwing objects at the likes of Cresswell and Fornals when taking the corners should have got the referee to call up the Frankfurt Manager to enforce the discipline, otherwise with a warning that the game could even be suspended. That seemed to distract our players and that is why the deliveries into the box were very poor. Maybe that is why Rice was really upset at these circumstances. I think that based on these occurrences FIFA should ban the Frankfurts fans from their final against Rangers!!

win ANYTHING while we still have SuGo in charge of the purse strings. David Moyes has rejuvenated our club DESPITE their total lack of financial support when it was needed.
I hope this Czech guy is going to show far more ambition than those two have EVER done in future transfer markets.
We’ve been relying on a squad that hasn’t changed much in a long time.
