Sack Race Sunday?

The enforced International break came just t the right or wrong time for West Ham, depending on what happens next? The time has allowed the board to 'consider all their options' with regards to David Moyes continued tenure as manager as well as allowing some of the club's players to go put an 'express themselves' for their teams.

The latter returned mixed fortunes for the club's players with Gianluca Scammacca being the one who missed out the most! Vlad Coufal DID get the chance to impress for the Czech Republic, but AGAINST the orders of the club's doctors and 'Pacman' got rubbish reviews in the Brazilian Press despite providing an assist during the game for which he was so highly criticised.

Sunday's crunch game against Southampton is a REAL SIX POINTER, a term normally reserved for top or bottom of the table games, but this really is a six pointer that could have truly MASSIVE implications, a home win could see Hammers reach the heady heights of 12th place depending on other results, defeat couls send the club into a downward spiral that looks difficult to get out of, so tight is this season's Premier League battle for survival!

Of course many will say that it is virtually inconceivable that the club should find itself embroiled in the dog fight at the bottom of the league when the original expectation, given the well funded new recruitments, was to be battling for a top sixth or seventh place again.

West Ham are the ONLY club in the bottom seven to have NOT sacked their manager, others who have are now well away from danger. It is too late to sack Moyes now, or is it? Defeat on Sunday would provide the 'last chance saloon' moment to oust the dour Scot. However the fixtures following the Saints game are daunting to say the least, so if someone new was brought in they would have to do a hell of a 'fire job' just to keep the club afloat!

We titled this article sack race Sunday, but judging by the MOUNT OF 'COMPETITORS' already out of the picture it appears Dino Moyes may have NO competition at all. Of course the fans will be there in force and are intelligent enough to know that any negativity they feel about the manager can be reserved until after what is after all a crucial game.

It will definitely be a Saints or Sinners day! - Ed

When did Leicester, Bournemouth or Forest sack their managers? Southampton are still doomed and Everton and Leeds are certainly NOT well away from danger. I know you wished we had Dyche as manager but his team are only two points clear of us and have played two games more.
As you rightly point out, we COULD end up in 12th place which means that Palace and Woves, both having played more games than us are just as deeply mired in the sticky stuff that we are.
I see only two realistic options to replace Moyes that could be available, Benitez or maybe Allardyce, both of whom would go down like a lead balloon with some fans, both of whom in my opinion, would safely pull us out of the bottom three. I'm guessing there are fans out there who would rather we go down than employ either.

I think big Sam's boat has sailed, but Benitez although not the most popular of choices would be accepted by most, albeit disgruntedly. Benitez would definitely keep the club up!

Whatever happens at Bedrock board room level. Dino Flintstone will still be employed come Monday.

That's unless Barney Warburton Rubble gets installed until the end of the season with his brown Caretakers coat on.

Unless of course in a Jurassic twist. Benitez is primed and ready to go. Which would not surprise me. However if we still went down I think he'd have to go aswell? In any case I think his contract would state until the end of the season....

Oi big boy, what's your name?

If ever there was an important match, this is it,we should be winning all our home games now,a draw isnt enough, the Saints will be fighting for their lives, and they were certainly a match for spud in there last game......Lose this game and in my opinion we are down.

On games like this to get 3 points! As Essex says Southampton will be fighting for their lives & came back from 2 goals down to snatch a draw at the tottscum! The pressure will be on us & the crowd will slaughter moyes if it goes pear shaped! The dithering Dildos should have acted months ago

The situation we now find ourselves in didn't unexpectedly fall from the sky upon us. It has been a very LONG time in the making. I think back to when Harry was ejected and the club announced his shock replacement Glenn Roeder (Rest his Soul) as manager. This was no thought-out “Plan” but an attempt to diffuse and divert the attention away from the board (old tightwad Terrance).

I know there has naturally been a lot of shouting and calls for Moyes's head, but calling for his head is one thing, and having a plan is completely different. I don’t need to put on a tin hat but as deluded as it might seem… Big Sam would love his time in the spotlight with a short contract for a few months (not going to happen) and Rafa’s ship has sailed.

What I hope for is that the players (who have the ability) dig in and get us out of this mess with some European Silverware (which they are capable of doing). In the summer the board relieves Moyes of his duties, and reveal their new manager Pochettino (with whom they had agreed on a contract over the last few months), have a BLUEPRINT for this club going forwards and signalling their intentions by filling the position of Technical director.

I can dream, can’t I?

Lol very good Nev,there could never be a better tune for this club.....I dont want Rafa short or long term, would rather Big Sam only short term if having to be,but i cant see Moyes going, whether we are up or down.

I have to say, in an ideal logical world. This would be a very good end game scenario. i would whole heartedly welcome it. As Nev points out, our dreams and all that....

I'm all out of ideas to be honest. This whole thing stinks to high heaven now......

1 step forward & 10 steps back! Growing up - win, lose or draw it didn't really matter it was about being part of a family at Westham....now I despair at what this board has done to the club

Spot on. You wouldn't think it could get worse after we're the only club whose billionaire owners go bankrupt, but no, the porn duo come in to save the day and leave the club looking like a set on one of they're awful cheap movies. Whichever league we end up in, when that prick leaves, it'll be a day to celebrate

If we lose Sunday,we will almost certainly get spanked by Newcastle Wednesday, and that will be it,but Moyes will hang on.

The manner is which Southampton fought back when they were 1-3 down versus Spuds, is a bit of a concern. They managed to pull back to 3-3 to earn a well deserved point despite the injuries on that day to both teams. Hope Moyes watched that game to see the energetic display by the Southampton players. Never seen West Ham reach that level of speed and stamina during this whole season. Just my two cents!!

I agree Toronto. Two years ago we didn’t worry if we went a goal down, we knew the lads would turn it around. We were playing a fast paced game back then and not many sides could cope with that. Now we look so lethargic. Where has the energy gone?
