The sad thing about Saturday's result is seeing what teams are through to the next round, all beatable on the day...

Even my season ticket Villa mate had a chuckle to me this morning when I delivered his mail....Well at least I'm still going to Wembley this year, all be it the RWC in Sept...

Worst we've played all season. West Brom were good, but we were awful. I don't like to come down too hard on Nolan, but he's simply too slow, should never start a game for us again. Sam HAS to see that, if he can't our owners need to have a strong word in his ear. We can start planning for next season right now: give our younger players some game time, start playing without "respect the point" and "clean sheet" being uppermost in our philosophy. If Sam can't do that... we look for a manger who can.

Ok, the first goal was offside. Ok, Kevin Nolan's handball in the area was unintentional. But after that: West Brom fully deserved their 2-0 lead at half time. And what did Nolan offer: a possible penalty that wasn't given, gave the ball away cheaply, a poor challenge with a high kick, ... essentially nothing. So what would you have done at half-time, chasing a 2-0 lead with nothing left to lose? I'd have made the change right then, Amalfitano for Nolan. But no, we were treated to fifteen minutes of the same thing in the second half before Sam decides to make the switch, and by then it's 3-0 and too late. And what happens after the switch? Our best, briefest patch of play. Almalfitano brings both Valencia and Sakho into the game, we attack, we press, we almost score. It might have been a nice consolation. But then Allardyce inexplicably takes OFF both Sakho and Song, and Amalfitano's silly, petulant, deserved red card was just the icing on the cake. This could have been 6 or 7 nil and there's only one person to blame -- Sam Allardyce. And I for one will be very happy if his contract is not renewed after this season and we start to play some attacking football. In fact, we should do it now, because the rest of the season will be a borefest with Allardyce at the helm. We're not going to be relegated, so why not start the renewal NOW?

PS I haven't read any of the other comments yet, but I fully expect to see a lot of the same on here.

Allardyce had a mare - don't understand why we played nolan and noble in a diamond formation. Substitutions as usual baffling to say the least. This rate we will start to drop down the table. We have a brilliant young centre half who everyone is raving about and trying to sign so why the hell don't we play him instead of Tomkins who is not fit. Disappointing to say the least as I really thought we could get to the final this time. Pathetic performance all round.

Nolan was shite but you tell me who was any better? Noble was awful and Downing offered very little. Song was wasteful and not a patch on what he is capable of. Sakho and Val looked lost upfront and didn't work at all as a team. Kouyate, although not a CB, got caught out too many times. Tomkins faired no better and neither did either full back. In fact I thought Cresswell was bloody awful and looked totally out of his depth. Adrian didn't do too well either did he? So all in all we were pants and Allardyce takes the blame of course. He was caught out tactically by Pulis today and we are out of the cup in humiliating style yet again!

No pressure in the league, so you would have thought Sam would have got them up for this game but NO. He has taken us as far as he can, time for a change . Taxi for Sam.

Although, momentarily, after MA came on, you could see both Sakho and Valencia come into the game. So I think that if we had started with a more incisive midfield we would have done better. Totally agree with you about Cresswell -- he was skinned for the first goal. Adrian -- tougher to say: first goai was offside, second took a deflection off Kouyate, Third -- geez I can't remember that one, but the fourth Adrian was beaten at his near post and should not have let that one through.
