News is emerging today of a proposed joint bid from West Ham for 24 year old Trevoh 'Tom' Chalobah and 21 year old Armando Broja from Hammers 'feeder club' Chelsea.
Having just banked what will eventually be over £100 Million from the sale of Declan Rice who the club took on from the Blues early on in his career, Hammers are now looking to spend some of that cash for two Premier League 'acquainted' players.
Chalboah hasn't actually started a Premier League match and Broja 'did' his ACL early last season. West Ham desperately need a replacement for the outgoing Gianluca Scamacca and Broja certainly fits the bill, the Elephant in the room is that despite youth being on his side, Broja did sustain an incredibly serious injury which can end a player's career IRRESPECTIVE of their age!
If Hammers do make a move for Broja then he will obviously be given a 'forensic' medical before things get serious, likewise Chalobah is full of promise but he hasn't 'cut it' in the Prem, an original pre-requisite for Davd Moyes' 'ideal' signings during this window.
The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg claims that Hammers have already submitted a tentative bid for Broja of £20 Million for Broja which could suit ALL parties, the Chalobah deal could be a lot more difficult with Chelsea apparently placing an eye watering £40 Million price tag on the centre-back and defensive midfielder's head.
However if a joint offer of £50 Million were to be accepted then the player amortisation could be worked out by the accountants at both clubs in order to maximise their impact on FFP. Both players have potential issues, but both players are young and will have a significant sell on value.
Buying top dollar young players and then nurturing them IS the famed Red Bull approach, a modus operandi that Moyes has eulogised about in the past, but there are certain conditions necessary. Tim Steidten CAN find the players for the future, but will Moyes nurture them? Or perhaps it is all double dutch? - LN
