Was just thinking of some former Hammers who have played at either Upton Park or The London Stadium. Players you really took to and was desperate fir them to do well but ultimately came up short.
I will start with Stan Lazarides.
And Stan the man yeah i think it was the last name made him sound special and he wasn't bad at all but for me the one who sticks in my mind and because of injury his career was nowhere near as good as it should of been is Jack Collison.
Especially those in the Moyes era so I won't mention Danny Ings, Seb Haller, Yarmalenko, Benrahma, Scammaca........oh sorry. Did I miss anyone?
OK, serious now but funny you bring Lazaridis into the mix becuase there were players from that era I really DID want to see more of. Hugo Porfirio, Paulo Futre, Florin Raducanu, Ilie Dumitrescu for example. Another signing from the Redknapp era I had high hopes for was Daniel da Cruz Carvalho, otherwise known as Dani.
There were others, Guillermo Franco and Chicharito Hernández I had really high hopes for, Franco in particular, massively misused by Zola.
There's also the ones who came through the ranks who didn't quite hit the heights one hoped for, Freddie Sears being one that really sticks out. All these names were on the tip of my tongue and I don't doubt I could dig up a few more if I went back through some of my old programmes
Kalvin Phillips, on the face of it the perfect replacement for Declan, totally misunderstood the effect of no first team footie at City, glad to see the back of him but still a shame.
James Ward Mouse, thought he would be perfect for us, was great for Saints, had a habit of scoring against us, brilliant dead ball, corners, freekicks. Out field... hopeless, cant wait to see him in a Forest shirt
Slightly different perspective. I was so excited by Dean Ashtons signing, promised so much, the Cup Final that was never meant to be. England and all that. Cruelly snatched away. Deano, Deano!!!!
