Hammers Hunted In 2-0 Defeat To Arsenal

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sat, 04/10/2025 - 17:07

West Ham United face a 2-0 defeat to Arteta’s Arsenal side after Nuno’s side struggled to make an impact on the game and woefully wasted the few good chances that were provided to them.

Nicholas Fullkrug has become the topic of conversation after his underwhelming performances so far for the Hammers this season, but more specifically, his disappearance while on the pitch has become visibly more apparent than ever in the last two games. The Krauts' best chance would come in the second minute, where he had the opportunity to head the ball into the net from close range, giving the Hammers a lead early on, which was desperately needed.

Bar his moment of potential glory, Fullkrug spent the remainder of his time on the pitch lethargically strolling around and attempting to find himself in the correct positions, but all of his movements would transpire to nothing, leaving the German to be hooked at the 60th minute for teenager Callum Marshall.

Marshall’s substitution marks his first appearance in Claret & Blue colours. Who expectidly struggled to have a large impact upon the game, as did others, with his only chance coming from a not-so-well-connected header from a corner in added time.

Arsenal’s first goal would come through an open net, which Declan Rice would convert, giving the home side the lead 38 minutes in.

Throughout the first and second half, Nuno’s Hammers struggled to capitalise on anything and would end the fixture with no shots on target but no goals conceded through set pieces either, pick your poisonous view.

Arsenal would double their lead through the courtesy of Lord Olivier, who gave Arsenal a penalty through a foul caused by Malick Diouf on Timber, but contact was initially made outside the box, in which Timber would eventually fall in the box and logically a free-kick would’ve been given. Mike Dean ranted on Sky Sports’ panel that it wasn’t a penalty due to the contact outside the box… but what Lord Olivier says is what goes.

Saka converted the penalty, making the scoreline 2-0, and the Hammers left to pitifully wait out the remaining 25 minutes.

Nuno’s side now heads into the international break, where further discussion and ideas will be conveyed and created. The board initially wanted to keep Graham Potter until the Arsenal game as they classed this and the Everton fixture as ‘write-offs’ and one a manager shouldn’t be introduced to.

Nevertheless, the matches have been played and the Hammers now head into their next three fixtures with fresh thoughts, those being against Brentford, Leeds and Newcastle.

Hoping for a big positive reaction against Brentford at the BOM. I shall be at the Leeds game and of course start numerous Jimmy Saville chants. He's coming for youuuu and he's one of your own!! In Nuno we trust!

Nuno will have seen up close the size of the task ahead and will have plenty of things to do on the training pitch over next couple of weeks....After playing two tough away fixtures back to back it will be interesting to see the approach Nuno takes playing at home and the Brentford game is very much a must win game for me.

We all no the shortcomings of the squad and who is to blame for that but there is nothing that can be done for next few months so lets hope Nuno and his coaching team can work the miracle we are going to need.

two difficult away games and one point. Under Potter we would have taken that and probably be VERY surprised to gain a point!

Its early days and Im prepared to give NES a chance. its a real shame that his first home game could be in a half empty stadium due to the BS protest.

I notice that NES uses the word "aggressive" a lot and clearly never saw that in Ward Mouse. I think we will see some interesting additions to the squad come the new year. Expect a more traditional hard working players at the expense of the typical flair...... lets see!

I think Fulkrug has got to be one of the worst signings that we have made for years and I just hope and pray that we have not got him at the end of the season and he stays fit till January I would not even play him just in case he ends up like Inngs on big wages stealing a living. Steiden may have made a few bob with Kudos but he has cost us an absolute fortune with Fulkrug he cost us 27 million and has been injured for a lot of last season and now he is back playing he is a liabilty waiting to happen, we have got lots of good young hungry strikers Callum Marshall,Daniel Cummmings, Josh Landers (Who scored a hat trick last week against Brighton U21's) give them a run out and sell the big Fookin German he's Crap. One thing that was good to see was we kept on going till the final whistle and were unlucky not to get 1 back at the end of the game if that match had potter as manager we would have lost about 5-0 I know it was was 2-0 but we still went down with a fight, even if we were outclassed, and our heads never went down.
