The Hammers have made another signing this transfer window after securing Arne Engels’ signature. Joël Piroe from Leeds United has joined on loan with an obligation to buy.
Blondie’s obligation to buy will be triggered if the Hammers achieve promotion and it would cost £10 million.
Despite West Ham’s best efforts to get Troy Parrott, the Hammers missed out on their number one target by £4.4m, with AZ wanting £21.5m from West Ham, which couldn’t be afforded by the club, therefore Piroe was completed.
Joël Piroe had a dismal Premier League campaign last season achieving 0 G/A in 16 Premier League games, that’s an unglamorous headline given that most were substitute appearances and in honesty, he’s being signed based on his Championship record, not his Premier League one.
Across his time in the Championship, he has played 182 matches, achieving 92 G/A, that’s a goal involvement every other game!
Joël Piroe also won the Championship Golden Boot during Leeds’ title-winning 2023/24 Championship campaign.
The Suriname international will be a needed addition to the current top two of Pablo and Taty. His style tends to lean towards being an alternative to Pablo rather than Taty Castellanos himself. Perhaps a Taty alternative could be signed too in the remaining days.
Nuno pushed for the signing of Piroe after learning that Troy Parrott wouldn’t be happening.
With Piroe complete, West Ham are said to be pushing for signings still and are hoping to get another two signings in the door before deadline day which is now in under two weeks' time.

A good signing for this league. I'd get Vardy, fit as a fiddle and plenty of tunes left. A one year deal would strike fear into any back four..COYI
