Wasteful West Ham Lacklustre In 2-0 Defeat

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sat, 22/08/2026 - 18:25

Lacklustre would be a positive way to put the result.

So far during this transfer window, West Ham have sold high and bought low, which is to be expected of a relegated side, but one thing that they haven’t done is secure and reinforce what was retained, and now the price is being paid.

With the transfer window closing in two weeks, West Ham have yet to sign a central defender to replace Axel Disasi. Nuno has also gotten certain players that he wants in, but the message is clear. More is needed.

A dreadful first goal to concede set the tone for the match. Upon review, it is dreadful defending, and the term “mark your man” must’ve been lost in translation; Hermansen hasn’t covered himself in much glamour either, after the slow reactions cost us the first.

All the possession and nothing to show for it. The Hammers ended the game with an amusing 77% possession but only a sole goal to our name against what’s tipped to be one of the poorer sides in the League.

The second goal was a virtual nightmare. The losing of the ball and a good finish, admittedly, but you cannot make these mistakes in the Championship as it will come back to bite you.

Charlton took advantage of West Ham’s errors, the story is simple.

After debutant Piroe at least provided a sliver of hope with a goal, it was let down when Taty Castellanos hit the post from the penalty spot after we had won a penalty.

This afternoon, there was no excuse for the final score. West Ham should be winning these games and also NEED to if they want to look to secure promotion.

Disappointing in both boxes, and West Ham need to work on both. New signings are also required to help try to gel this team together, as it seems to be currently full of magnetic repulsion.

As well as Pablo and Tomas Soucek being injured, it also now appears that Konstantinos Mavropanos has an injury this afternoon, leaving West Ham with the only possible central defender pairing of Max Kilman and Joel Veltman.

These are crucial times for West Ham, they simply cannot mess up the remainder of this transfer window. That is a must.

Get Bellamy in...we don't have the money to do that...yes we do just will not be done....Taty does not want to be here Mav looks the same Kilman my God we are stuck with him Scarles will be burnt out by end of September the amount of ground he is having to cover and it shows in his defending or lack of it..Bowen still not captain material and i am not calling him out on his debut but Engels looks light to me...no leaders no direction and a manager that is only taking us in one direction ffs will the board stop their pissing contest and do something...60thousand will soon become 16thousand

Taty not a striker played upfront the new striker played behind...exactly the same thing he does with Pablo who is a striker....Nuno no clue none what so ever.....i do not want to see that man in charge when we play Millscum.

Agreed with all of that Bikey. We need a manager who goes to war every weekend and gets a result. We have not got the time to piss around. Either on the pitch or at board room level. Now, stop your willy waving and put the supporters first. This is beyond dog shit!!

No way do i want Bellamy you must be joking,i would rather Di Canio, get Eddie Howe in he would be better,i will keep banging the Staveley drum,as Kretinsky aint up to it thats why we are here, and none of the rest are either, this club is like a house with the same owners for 50 years, with the attitude of,oh thats ok,or oh thats the cheapest option,we will be ok but looking drab and dated.......Dead beats, piss off and get someone who can.....Pricks

Nuno has to go he is lifeless he walks around like he's coming out of a coma he seems to have brain fog no passion been here a year and quotes he doesn't even know who the penalty taker is,bowen is no captain it's affecting his football as well,i would personally have gone either paco, howe,mcKenna would be capable i think to sort something out of this huge quagmire this club is in get nuno out before deadline day not like before waiting till after deadline day and then getting rid of manager so he is left with other managers players like lopi and potter this scum sullivan has left his presence and slim all over this club the narcissist dwarf turns up at matches to gloat they feed on drama and conflict just what's going on in the boardroom it wont stop until he's totally gone.

I know hes not new. But lets give him more than 2 games with a new team. Massive changes since we came down and lets not forget the team was crap for ages.

He has been here done it before. He wouldnt have stayed on if he didnt believe we can go back up.

Names like bellamy are laughable tbh. Zero experience and would burn out after ten games.

Its tough. Losing at home to charlton is abysmal. But lets face it, we arent very good. Bowen hasnt been on form for a while now. Bar him, we are a championship side. So we are going to have to get used to the idea we arent walking over the league. Its a battle ahead.

He was useless last season in setting us up defensively and was a pure Coward when we were ahead in a game.

There's no sense in keeping a loser not fit for purpose.

I met a guy was who owned his own very successful business. He could tell by lunch time if the person he employed would be a success or at best just Bang Average. Think about it... I'm sure you can think of similar work situations... I certainly can.Get him out now while we still have a chance to get promotion.

Well if Taty hadn't done his hop skip and a jump routine he would have scored. Seeing as how their goalie went for a sausage roll..

You don't know that for a fact. Geoff Hurst, Mark Noble, Dicksie and Tonka never did hop, skips and jumps before their penalties and none of them have a 100% conversion rate. That was only his fourth career penalty miss by the way, although this is not me saying I'm a fan of the stutter penaly.

The games gone mad, just run up with purpose, get your knee over the ball and bang it hard. If the keeper saves it. So be it, just make him work ffs.

Dyche oh dear me no,i would rather have Big Sam back,if Eddie Howe is good enough for Man U Mac then he could do a turn for us,but hang on,if he goes there Carrick can come here,he knows this league,i wouldnt say no to him.

Hands up who think Bowen was weak not to take responsibility and should of ripped the ball out of Tatys hands, and two hands up who think Sullivan has a nerve turning up,who wants to see him,or Kretinsky for that matter.......Kretinsky dont want the responsibility,i gamble you,Sullivan will still be pulling the strings behind the scenes

This love affair with Howe. £700 million spent at Newcastle and just a Carabao Cup to show for it. Want to know what he'd be like at a club without money, just look at his Bournemouth record and how much they have come forward since his departure. Same with Potter at Brighton
