Ahead of the game against Brighton one optimist at the Org commented on being reminded that the last time Hammers had won there was 12 GAMES AGO, a Ricardo Vaz Te hat trick and three other goals contributed to a chastening 6-0 loss for the home side when both teams were in the Championship.
Fast forward many years and he was correct, statistics are there to be shown and records to be broken and Hammers finally managed to 'nail' the Brighton myth! Many even expected Glenn Murray to come out of retirement suddenly turn up as a 'late signing', such was his love of scoring against West Ham!
James Ward-Prowse, Jarrod Bowen and Big Mikey Antonio 'stitched' the Brighton defence 'up like a kipper', Hammers may have had next to no possession, but when they had it they severely punished the home team. Three crisply taken pure counter attack goals did the trick, but surely sooner or later teams will learn to 'counter' the counter' won't they?
Having three out of four fixtures away from home was hardly ideal for Moyes and his boys to begin the season with, especially bearing in mind the coming fixtures against City and Liverpool. However, before that there is the fixture away to Luton at their 'newly refurbished' Kenilworth Road Ground.
The home crowd will be absolutely 'gagging' for it and it will be the biggest sporting event in the Town and surrounding areas for years and years. Luton showed in their opening two games that they possess pace and power and can play with 'two big men' up top. Meaning they can be quite a handful, especially as they will be driven on by the roar of the 12th man.
Mohammed Kudus may well be a fully fledged Hammer by next week, so Moyes will have a bit of a selection dilemma because his squad is getting appreciably stronger with ALL the recent additions. Even a point would be good to take away from Luton, because we get the feeling Kenilworth Road will become a bit of a strong hold, very old school and VERY intimidating! - Ed
