The Dier’s Are Falling Off!

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Wed, 14/01/2026 - 08:40

In light of recent news, the Hammers are targeting numerous centre-backs in an attempt to reconcile themselves for the second half of the season, but there’s not the urgency you’d anticipate.

After Mavropanos suffered a nasty suspected head injury, many believed that this would’ve sped up the process for Nuno to get in another central defender, something that he’s been very keen to secure. However, his objectives don’t align with the boards, he at the moment is targeting a defender that’s from abroad, but all the options he has returned to the board with, they believe, are either too expensive or not better than what we currently have…

Which, in all honesty, is very difficult to believe given the current abilities of our backline.

Eric Dier was one of the many central defenders that Nuno had wanted and despite his agents being keen on the move, it would be very hard to convince Monaco, as they signed him recently. However, it is important to note that they have just brought in a centre back on loan from Leicester, which could potentially now see a door be budged.

Nuno Espírito Santo has aspired to have a central defender that optimises experience and leadership, yet the board are refusing to cooperate and are keeping their cards close coming in to the remaining half of the window.

Many are quick to believe that the wheels have fallen off the wagon, but with some reinforcements and tools, West Ham might just be able keep the tyres on.

It’s just unfortunate that in this given moment, there’s an underlying feeling of dread that no defender will be brought in - LN

Is Igor Julio really that bad he can't get a game?
Second question. Why doesn't Magassa get a stint at CB? It is one of his positions after all.
Third and final question. When was the last time we had an ex Tottenham player who did anything useful?
Actually, I do have a fourth. Why are Kilman, Ward Prowse, Paqueta, Hermandsun, Rodriguez, Sullivan and Brady still here?

But don't recall him being there. I've always associated him with Brighton. But yeah, he was a good player.

Jimmy Neighbour (on the wing) Cambridge United 1979 December under the lights in the snow. One of my best memories..

loosing at half time, snow fall blizzard, in the ol East Side, couldnt see the North Bank, Dulchi Jubilo played at HT and we all started dancing. Remember a bloke in a long black leather coat dancing and saying "well its better than the bloody football"!!!!

Think it was an experiment playing on a Friday rather than the last Saturday before Christmas? 11K there but I must have met 30K who said they were there :o)

Agree about Julio, why has he not been used?

Whilst I appreciate Oddbods experience is good. The spuds would laugh us out of the borough. I think the board are holding off until Saturday. If we get turned over against them, I'm pretty sure Nuno will be toast.

Therefore they are not committing to anything at present.

After all, we needed ET against a Championship side, to get a win at last. I don't think Nuno is doing himself any favours.

Same shizzle, different day, sportsfans..
