Disastrous Signing Confirmed

On the 15th of April 1912 British passenger liner RMS Titanic, operated by the White Star Line, sank in the North Atlantic Ocean after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. The captain, under duress from White Star's money men, continued at full speed in to an area that had already been flagged up as being full of massive Icebergs, he chose to ignore the warnings despite pleas form his senior staff.

Now of course the sinking of the Titanic was a tragedy, the likes of which will hopefully never ever occur again and due to lessons learned from the ill fated voyage future cross Atlantic crossings became markedly safer. So comparing the tragic loss of life involved to a football transfer seems incredibly churlish and insensitive, however as Liverpool's greatest manager Bill Shankly once said “Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.”

So news that West Ham have just spent an astonishing £30 Million for an out of form 30 year old with absolutely NO sell on value will have fans queueing up to metaphorically jump of high buildings! West Ham United have agreed the deal with Manchester United to sign defender Harry Maguire. Personal terms are yet to be agreed but they are not expected to be an issue as it is understood Maguire is keen to make the move and Manchester United will need to use a large part of the £30 Million fee received to supplement Maguire's wages.

The England centre back who joined Man United in August 2019 for a world record £80m for a defender struggled for first team opportunities at Old Trafford last season and was stripped of the captaincy by Eric Ven Tag. Maguire made 30 appearances for United last season, but only made eight league starts.
Hammers do need an extra centre back due to Kurt Zouma's propensity for picking up injuries and Angelo Ogbonna's advancing years. Make no mistake though, Maguire is 100% a Moyes signing as it appears the under pressure manager has finally got his way DESPITE advice from newly appointed director of football Tim Steidten.

Hopefully, events will prove the majority of fans wrong, but Moyes appears to be doing a 'Harry' with the Declan Rice money which has been burning a hole in his pocket. Paying £30 Million for a player who clearly DID NOT want to be at the club is a portent for disaster, not on the scale of the Titanic, but signing Maguire will put the club back by several years.

The news that Moyes might also get his hands on James Ward Prowse is equally galling given the huge £30 Million fee being potentially paid out for another player who will eventually have little sell on value. So there you have it, Moyes has got his way, will he be there to see his acquisitions shine? Hopefully not, but he will have pissed through over half of the Rice money! - Happy days are here again? - Ed

I think you'll see old sliders Maguire sliding into the Captains armband Nev as part of the deal.

Like him or lump him, he's an improvement on that carthorse Zouma. Never have I seen a player who looks like he's only got one leg on a football field.

Maguire is a Captain, a leader, he's an arsehole yes. But the leadership qualities that Big Dec had can be somewhat revived.

Pacqueta is the next cab off the rank now if Citeh stick a bid in.................God help us!!

FFS if he goes Moyes will of achieved his dream of killing off any creativity and we will be a team that no longer sits outside there own box and defending for dear life no Moyes has clearly decided with the Maguire deal that we can sit just outside our own six yard box and hoof it long hoping for a foul and a set piece.....i've found plenty of walls to paint this season and will spend it watching them dry as it will be far more entertaining than watchin g us Sadly

Im seen as a bit of a light weight M2C by the folk here because I like Great Northern which is odd because I never drink Lager at home. I like a number of the Pale Ales, particularly Four Pines. We have an excellent local micro brewery called the Bearded Brewer, nice watering hole before seeing The Sharks play. Fan of Wood & Stone, went to the brewery when in Byron Bay but i think the best so far is Felons Brewery in Brisbane, by the river, great food and good selection of beers including a Black Lager that looked like a Guinness but tasted of lager!!

whats your tipple?

Have to say I think Great Northern tastes a bit on the light side with very little real flavour. I can understand the locals opinion of you hahah! You have mentioned a couple of faves though in Stone & Wood, and 4 Pines pale ales. Both very good. Am partial to a few Tassie beers, Moo Brew Pale my absolute fave, and James Squire do a couple, 150 Lashes Pale and Chancer Golden Ale.

Like it or not Maguire is one of us now. We neeed to rally behind him and maybe he will shine like the diamond he once was at Leicester and for England.
Yes he and Ward Prowse are Moyes signings but DM is still our manager and he will live or die by his decisions. We need to hold on to Paquetta . A top ten finish would do nicely as well as a good cup run. Onward and upward COYI

Signing Maguires is the least of our problems. Losing Paquetta to City is major especially now. Who could blame him for wanting out? If he wants to go we got to let him go. He will just sulk and not play. Sure the Pearl Duver has an alternative!
