West Ham United have agreed to sell Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur for an £85m fee today. The Portuguese midfielder was contemplating and open to joining both Spurs and Manchester United, but Spurs pushed forward, offering a fee Manchester United weren’t happy to pay, and the Hammers have accepted their offer.
Mateus Fernandes did not force a move away and was content with waiting; it just happens to be that Tottenham were willing to pay the money.
It will be £85m guaranteed, with no add-ons, and if a sell-on clause is included, it is unknown.
Unfortunately for the Hammers, it was a matter of ‘when’ Fernandes would leave, not ‘if ’, and as Spurs were willing to pay the most, it had to be. Whilst it’s not what West Ham fans might’ve wanted, it’s the situation that has happened.
Southampton will also receive part of the transfer fee. The Saints included a 15% sell-on clause but only for the profit the Hammers would make. West Ham have made a £47m profit in this deal, meaning £6.2m will head towards the coast, whilst the remaining £78.8m is expected to be used for future transfers, as well as to fill the holes off debt the club are in.

Hmmm, not sure how I feel about this one. I'm not so sure the fans will accept it. All be it they are in another division now. It's still Spurs!!!
Still I suppose it means Spurs will get relegated next season. He's the new Roger relegation Johnson...
Becoming a feeder club for
Becoming a feeder club for Spurs! I liked Fernandez but I hope he has as much impact for Spurs as Kudus.
It is good money. But let's hope it's not wasted. Could we gazzump Moyes for Hackney?
£85M
I think we all agree he is a top player but that price is too high particularly as said previously he didn't make the national side.
