Having emptied Hammers' bank account completely, in addition to leaving the club with a MASSIVE repayment schedule, ex-manager Manuel Pellegrini now wants to take advantage of one of his previous 'excesses'. Nothing wrong with that, given what other ex-managers have done to their previous clubs.
So news that Goncalo Cardoso could be set for a loan move to Pellegrini's La Liga Santander side Real Betis won't come as much of a shock. The 21-year-old has spent the first half of this season on loan at FC Basel in Switzerland, but has struggled to force his way into their side and has since been recalled.
Hammers paid £3 Million for the central defender who showed great promise as an 18 year old, unfortunately he hasn't been able to progress and a move is probably the best thing. Cardosa is also on wages that are way too high for an untried youngster, believed to be in excess of £10,000 per week so getting him off the wage bill will be useful.
There are those who will see the situation as 'a bit ripe' given that Pellegrini will benefit from the transaction far more than West Ham, but what is the point in crying over spilt milk? The only reason NOT to send Cardosa to Betis, is if he were able to play AGAINST Hammers in the latter stages of the Europa League Cup.
Clearing out the dead wood has been an important part of preparing for new blood hopefully, there are still 11 days left in the transfer window in which Moyes can pull the trigger on the targets that he has been keeping close to his chest. - LN
