So What happened To Moyes' Young And Keen?

Perhaps it is the grim reality of how little there is in the Hammers transfer kitty that some of David Moyes' recently purported transfer targets do NOT fit into his young, fit, hungry and lean player template. Interest in 28 year old perennially injured Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain along with 30 year old Jens Stryger Larsen, who has been strongly linked with a move to the London Stadium from Udinese, will hardly inspire fans in the run up to the new season.

The negativity surrounding transfer issues being further compounded by reported other interest in 29 year old injury prone Phil Jones on a free transfer from Manchester United, there is also interest in ex Middlesbrough failure Martin Braithwaite!

On the plus side, the youth players continue to impress, but throwing them in at the deep end could have catastrophic short and long term consequences. The need for an additional centre back has now become even more acute, having foolishly let Faban Balbiuena run down his contract and depart the club, David Moyes now finds himself with only Craig Dawson and Issa Diop as fit first team players.

The club are anxiously awaiting the results of a scan undergone by Angelo Ogbonna, the prospects of which aren't encouraging, in addition reserve centre back Winston Reid picked up a knee injury in New Zealand’s 3-2 loss to Honduras at the Olympics and is likely to miss the rest of the tournament before returning to the London Stadium, injured yet again!

It's hard to be positive at this moment in time, it appears Hammers credit cards are all 'maxed out' and they can barely afford their minimum payments, this is going to be a hard season full of what might have beens. - Ed

The board are pleading poverty, the bonus being at least you don't have to hear their smoke and mirrors spin while they are 'running scared'.

Never have I read such negative shit. I’ve been watching the pre season and we look sharp. Youngsters coming through well, Coventry will keep Noble out. Alves will be back up Centre back … a striker, left back and Centreback .. all we need… this is a good squad watch it.

I feel if the worst of the Pellegrini storm can be ridden out, then the future does indeed look rosier than it seems, the youth players coming through are an exceptional crop of players, we haven't seen the likes of which since the Rio, Joe Cole, Fat Frank and Geordie boy era.

We, us the fans have very little information on what is available to spend. Nor are we really privy to who these targets actually are - which pleases me, in comparison to years gone by!

Our biggest asset is Davy boy, he knows how to get the most out of his players and the coaching staff he’s assembled, are all singing off the same hymn sheet. Respect has to be given for what he’s doing and has done for us. This is a potentially great time to be a West Ham supporter, so let’s continue to support the team and be the twelfth man to take us those extra points we need, to get to see the promised land. ⚒

Focus has to be on keeping what we have, Rice, Coufal, Bowen, etc, and slotting the youngsters in where needed. Any big signings will be a pleasant surprise. This season is about consolidation and a top ten finish. Maybe then we will be in shape to push forward and upward.
