We have all been there as children, you get to the top of the water slide or hook line queue and take up your position while a heap of others are waiting patiently behind for you to take the plunge. Suddenly you are gripped with fear and freeze on the spot, but there is NO going back so you have to BE BRAVE and summon up all your courage and leap into the unknown.

It's all over in a few seconds, you look back for acknowledgement or appreciation from those in the queue jostling for position only to see that no one noticed anything out of the ordinary and that the entire 'grip of fear' experience you had was all in your mind.

David Moyes has finally got back to near the top of the queue, having been sent to the back by Manchester United, it has been a long and arduous journey but finally he is back with the big boys, albeit only tenuously. To continue the queueing metaphor Moyes has reached a point in the transfer market whereby he CAN AFFORD to take the plunge, but is possibly reticent to do so having been 'scarred' by previous experiences.

Jockeys who fall off horses, F1 drivers who crash and relay runners who drop the baton, ALL have to pick themselves up and go again, overcoming their fears in the process. David Moyes has done incredibly well during both of his spells at the club, his 2nd coming period being the most productive. He is now at a bit of a cross roads, in a way his success over the last two years, despite the team's recent blip in form, has created a myth that he doesn't seem to want to tarnish by making a big transfer mistake, thereby ruining his redemption.

The problem is that David Moyes IS risking his reputation by not even putting himself in the firing line, by playing safe and signing no one, it is what record company A&R men used to do in the past! Moyes' relutance to take a risk in the market is commendable but is also a bit weak, NOT a word that you would usually associate with the 58 year old Scot!

At the risk of receiving a 'slap' from the erstwhile Hammers manager (he'll know what we mean), we suggest he 'grows a pair' and gets OFF the fence and spends a bit of the money he has available! This comment may seem hypocritical as we have always backed Moyes' reluctance to sign players just 'for the sake of it', but sometimes being intransigent just because you are right can be WRONG!

In the past the board signed useless players soley to appease disenfranchised fans, but that is NOT necessary now, however fans do love a new signing, so why not do a little something for them Moysie? The Board has reiterated there is money there for you waiting to be used.

It may not make much sense from a football point of view, but it wouldn't upset the apple cart too much if you brought in just one 'Tiny' little striker as a present would it? Michy Antonio's ham strings would love it for a start, so would the fans AND the Owners! - Ed

Well, 5 days to go And it's squeaky bum time for Moyes he's done some great signings in Bowen, Coufal, Souchek but I think hes hit the crossbar with Vlassic and I'd only give that signing 6/10 so I think hes afraid of disgracing himself and doing another Hugill. But when he gets Ogbonna back will he use Caleta- Carr? he has hardly given Alex Krall a chance - Ockoflex banging in goals for fun still awating his debut -with Antonio going to Jamaica who has 3 game in the world cup Qualifier. IMO he must get 2 strikers one on loan and one proven striker. It makes me Frigging angry when I hear him say hes been looking for a striker for 2 years when its the fact that he has lost his nerve and wants to do great business all the time, every prem manager wants to do that, but can hereally do worse than Pellegrini with Roberto and Jack wheelchair NO so FFS buy a striker before the winter break because if he don't and Antonio's hamstrings go It will be Goodnight Vienna , Barcelona, Rangers Porto FA CUP, etc please wake up WHU or you will only have yourself to blame you got the funds -go and spend some of it and make your supporters proud because if we have had a better bench we would have beet Man U and here endeth the lesson for today - Hope we aint in the same position on the 31st but I've got a terrible gut feeling that I'm going to hear that crap he came out with on theweekend - we tried but there was nobody available- they wereto expensive BULLSHIT wake up Moyes you cant do worse than Hugill -show some balls, and get us a European cup run or a Fa cup run, you cant do good business all the time but if you dont take a chance we will do do F*ck all- we will win nothing, and thats a fact

We've had so much dross over the years especially striker wise why not take a punt? I don't mean 45 million for a donkey, but maybe 10- 20!Every day we are apparently in for this striker that striker,if the dough is there spend it...I'd be more surprised If we actually got a decent striker, cos good strikers & westham are as rare as rocking horse sh*t!!;)

you can only sign players that a) want to come here and b) their clubs are willing to sell, clubs still involved in a push in a cup or for Europe may not be so forthcoming, add to that they too will be looking to replace a player they release.

I'd rather us sign nobody at all. Rather that than buy some panic bucket of arse who turns out to be as much use as a pork chop at a Jewish wedding.....

All of a sudden we have a right to challenge the big boys and splash the cash because WE as supporters and Everyone else is aware that we have funds.

That is one half of the problem, the other half of the problem is that we are in January, a transfer window month associated with high spending and mostly poor value.

Moyes has put us in the position that we find ourselves in and has earned my trust. I'm fine with waiting as it is all about getting the "Right" players in rather than punts. But that is just my reading of it.
