Three down and two to go - October

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Mon, 19/10/2026 - 11:53

West Ham United are now over halfway through their October fixtures, with only two matches remaining this month, both at the London Stadium.

After West Ham’s driving victory against Swansea, the Hammers have risen to 2nd place in the League Table, placing themselves just one point away from Swansea, a gap that could’ve possibly grown to seven points should the victory have swung the other way.

Nuno and the team have appeared very confident in recent moments and are building upon the momentum that comes each week, not to mention, being unbeaten in nine league games also bolsters the ever-growing confidence.

Despite the team having confidence, questions do still arise. One topic of conversation was the decision that Nuno Espírito Santo made to start Manor Solomon over Edvin Austbø who’s been impressive in the last two matches, especially in comparison to the dip in form Solomon is experiencing. Looking ahead, should the Portuguese manager rotate the two? Or is it a question of going back to the phrase ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ given that the wins have been back-to-back and Edvin appears to be coming alight as a super sub… tough calls to make.

However, overlooking that, Nuno seems to have solidified his ideal game plan of who can play a certain amount of minutes per week and who needs to be substituted on in order to have the most impact and when it needs to happen.

After 11 matches in the Championship, West Ham currently have 22 points and will finish the remainder of the month with Southampton and West Brom to play. West Brom are currently 5th with 20 points and Southampton are 7th with 17.

but " driving victory against Swansea" is pushing it. Yes, three points, very welcome and needed and no complaints but I think I watched a different game to you. My opinion of Solomon has already been aired so not going over old grounds but to say we're appearing very confident is pushing it to the absurdity. Even worse, suggesting that Nuno "seems to have solidified his ideal game plan". Seriously, I personally think he is winging it. Not only was I surprised by Nunos game plan at Swansea, I was even more astonished that Swansea were as timid as we are so the three points in the bag are as much their fault as the luck for our goal. C'mon, WTF were their defenders doing at that point?
Not too bothered about West Brom, but I think Southampton will be an interesting game to watch. Come on Louis, leave the exagerrations to the rag top media.

What's with the constant negativity? The table is about points. At the end of the day, nobody cares about the games. It's points that count. Look at the goal difference! I for one am not going to dissect games all the time we're racking up the points. This is real demanding Championship football. As long as we get 3 points I don't give a shit how we got them!!!
