Having been snubbed by Olympic Marseille centre back Duje Caleta-Car, David Moyes is having to look elsewhere in an incredibly tight time frame, this is a direct result of putting all your transfer eggs in one basket. The flotsum left available is unappealing in various degrees.
Talk of the club looking at a quick fire deal for ageing Watford veteran Craig Dawson instead will have filled fans with dread, it's like looking at a new car in a showroom, but just as you go to pick it up you are informed there has been an error and instead you are now the proud owner of a rusting transit. Lowering expectations is one thing, it is entirely another to have to go subterraneal!

Arsenal’s Calum Chambers is another option, as is Swansea’s Joe Rodon, the former is desperate for game time whereas the latter is a fine prospect for the future, at just 22 years old he definitely fits Moyes' young and hungry template. Chambers could be a useful addition but any deal or him would have to be a loan, as opposed to Rodon who would need to be purchased outright.

With Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena and Angelo Ogbonna the only recognised senior centre halves at the club, there is a need for another before the transfer window closes, however the 'leave it till the last possible moment' brothers will do exactly that because domestic deals between Barclays Premier League teams and the EFL or below, will run from 23:01 BST on 5 October to 17:00 BST on 11th. - Ed
