Last night, reports were made that the Hammers would be signing a free agent, and it was believed to be a defender - many came to the conclusion that the individual in question was a former Brighton player, yet that didn’t quite narrow it down.
Brighton have three former players available on a free: Adam Webster, Solly March and Joël Veltman. The Hammers have opted for the third name, the 34-year-old Dutchman who can play centrally and also on the right.
Signing Joël Veltman on a free will now pave the way for Kyle Walker-Peters to be the starting right-back in Nuno’s side, and it will also allow Aaron Wan-Bissaka to leave, who has been forcing a move away from West Ham and has made it clear to Nuno that he does not want to play in the Championship.
Nuno will expect to complete the signing of Joel Veltman in the coming days and will now allow the sale of AWB.
West Ham are still going to sign another central defender, with the two names most likely being Dylan Lawlor from Cardiff City and Axel Disasi, for whom the Hammers are waiting for the green light from the Frenchman.
Joël Veltman played 191 games for Brighton, including 24 last season in the Premier League.

Veltman, didn't Bill Murray
Veltman, didn't Bill Murray play him in Ghostbusters? He must be older than 34 now surely! Now where did I put my ectoplasm??..........Taxi!!
This brave new West Ham
Seems strangely familiar
Defender.
Perhaps if he signs he might be another craig Dawson he can play right back and centre half just for championship football because of his experience for this season but age will hinder him past this season.
Joking apart he's now here on
Joking apart he's now here on a one year deal. With an option for another. A good sensible solid signing who will see plenty of minutes on the pitch.
Truth be told
I don't know much about him. But he can't be worse than Kilman. Can he? Disasi off the table then?
I don't know if it's mind
I don't know if it's mind games or agent spin. But he's agreed everything with us. Personal terms etc. But is waiting for up to 2 weeks to see if anyone else comes in for him.
I heard Palace were really keen and can offer him everything we cant at present. Lacroix has gone to Chelsea and they need a replacement. So, not sure, but was hoping he's come back. Much like many fans. Although this stalling doesn't lend itself to the love , does it?
Out of the blue Alvarez, is
Out of the blue Alvarez, is back and committing himself to us. He's been given the number 4 shirt. Surely he's too good for the championship? That explains Potts leaving. Now he needs to prove himself!
He can do one
Seen milk turn quicker than that muppet. Even in the chumps league he's a liability and no way better than Potts.
In the words of Shirley Bassey... "There is fashion, there is fad
Some is good, some is bad
And the joke rather sad,
That it's all just a little bit of History repeating"
Have to disagree there.
Potts is overrated and I think him being "one of ours" contributes to the general feeling of preference. I prefer Alvarez myself and glad it seems that he is staying. This, by the way, is not me saying he is as good as Fernandez or even an on his day Paqueta. I actually think the Championship may suit Alvarez more than the Premier League to be honest.
This Veltman bloke,the usual
This Veltman bloke, the usual scope hey to build a team, just the right age.........To retire.
LOL Essex!
I think he will be OK in chumps, got a good attitude, very professional etc.
I just dont agree with a lot of fans and high profile celebs (Carlton Cole) that the squad is good enough...
Lets see on Saturday, I have a bad feeling that on the pitch we will struggle and around Stratford it will kick off... 9K of them coming!
Thats alot mate,im wondering
Thats alot mate,im wondering how they will police the Millwall game, when we last played them at Upton Park,Green Street was closed,Westfield will have to be boarded up.
I didnt see any trouble,
I didnt see any trouble, their fans added to the atmosphere and at the end were pretty subdued but all credit to them bringing a big support.
