The West Ham Shuffle

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sat, 27/06/2026 - 11:49

West Ham United are anticipating a significant shuffle up in both the staff and player departments this transfer window.

However, with the World Cup ongoing, player developments are looking bleak and bar a few free transfer rumours running around, it looks inevitable that the staff focus would take priority, which it has.

Daniel Kretinsky has aimed to reshuffle his backroom staff, with the first of what we believe to be many new additions to the club, with ‘Director of Transfers’ now being fulfilled by Nils Koppen, currently at FC Copenhagen and a former employee of both Rangers and PSV.

His name was initially sparked around being a Director of Football, but clarity has since emerged, and IF he is to join West Ham, he will be primarily focused on signings and working with Nuno.

It should be said that during this process of identifying who should fulfil this role. Kretinsky has worked alongside Nuno Espírito Santo in deciding who should take the role, subsequently meaning we shouldn’t be seeing any conflict between the two, as we have done previously with other individuals & managers.

You’d also hope that during the interview process it was mentioned that Jorge Mendes’ clients will likely be signed; let’s hope a list is already drawn up!

Nils Koppen’s wedge between putting pen to paper at West Ham at the moment is the minute final details as well as a pending work permit.

It is thought that Nils could be the final addition to the boardroom staff, but Nuno is expected to add to his backroom team, with Paco’s future in limbo.

Slow developments, but by July 1st, chaos will all emerge.

I would be very sorry to see this guy leave. I think NES needs him as he's prone to be a defensive coward and Paco loves to attack.

I think his cowardice to take off attacking players and replace with slow horses to see out games didn't work and cost us the Prem.

Lets see...

To go on the Nuno bashing crusade purely on last season with us. Took over the accumulative decisions of three pathetic managerial decisions, Moyes pissed off leaving a huge rebuild, Loppy didn't exactly help improve matters and doubtful anyone knew what the Hell Potter was attempting to do. Yes, Nuno made mistakes, especially in the early days, but I never had Nuno down as a defensive coward at Forest, especially his selections with Gibbs-White and Wood, so hopefully ,this season it is all going to be a fresh start. A full preseason, the I's will be dotted and the T's will be crossed and by Christmas we should have a clue if we're heading in the right direction.
It's not going to be pretty, the brief is the same as Alladyce had last time we were relegated, promotion at all costs first time round.
Looking at the odds for the next Burnley manager, not includng the one they've just sacked, there doesn't seem to be a lot of better alternatives to ours right now. I like Paco but not sure his gung ho style would suit the Championship division.

We all know the reason behind to many disastrous appointments at our club and like many i am hopeful for a more reasoned and professional approach from now on and lets face it it cannot be any worse now can it!.

Football directors scouts coaches whoever makes the appointments we all hope the right people are put in place because apart from the odd name here and their what do we really know about them?.

Now on the player front these next couple of weeks will give us some idea as to what the squad will look like come the new season and also see how true to his word DK is.

Now i am not going to go over old ground as to who the most likely to leave are rather i am going to be a tad controversial here and say on Kilman i think we should keep him(stop poking me with pointy sticks)my reasoning for this are twofold A. he may well thrive at championship level his confidence will return and he will be a good backup in what may well be a threadbare squad at the seasons start. B. selling him at a considerable loss just does not make sense and if he plays well(debateable i know)then his price would rise not to the eyewatering amount we stupidly paid but to a more reasonable amount that the loss incurred would not be so large. So to my mind discarding him for a huge loss to me makes no sense.

Said it before. Kilman will come into his own at Championship level. If Mav leaves, sorry HG, but he is a ready made replacement. Todibo, you won't see his arse for dust. So looks like two centre halves could be out. Although we have Casey and Golembekis chomping at the bit and rightly so!
