West Ham United dominate nine-man Lincoln City

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Wed, 14/10/2026 - 22:12

West Ham United equalled their biggest away league win in club history on Wednesday night, after the Lincoln gubbing. The Hammers last scored six in an away win in 1962 against Manchester City. How times change!

Two minutes and 20 seconds into the match, Lincoln received their first red card for a poorly timed challenge on Joel Veltman and 20 minutes later, they received their second as Conor McGrandles denied Jarrod Bowen a goal-scoring opportunity, subsequently seeing red.

On the stroke of halftime, it would be the Main Man Mav who headed the ball into the back of the net from a corner, before the whistle blew and Nuno Espírito Santo kept his side on the pitch momentarily, evidently disappointed with their efforts and substituted on the young Norwegian, Edvin Austbø, to solve the issues… to which he certainly did.

Three minutes into the second half, Austbø converted a curling strike that looped over George Wickens, before Jarrod Bowen made it three just two minutes later, placing us in a position of comfort.

The game evolved, and the Hammers continued to threaten as Pablo converted from a corner, scoring his first club league goal, whilst the substitute, super Tomas Soucek, converted a brace, bringing his total goal-scoring tally for the Hammers to 49, one more to reach the milestone!

The second six-nil result of the season, and our first clean sheet since the 6-0 victory over Wrexham, has now pushed the Hammers back into third after dropping down to sixth last night and, more importantly, places the club in a position of having +17 GD.

The red cards, of course, were the nail in the coffin for Lincoln City tonight, but overall, Nuno should certainly be credited with his starting side, making the decision to revert to the 4-4-2 and continue with two strikers, which, once again, has proven to be the best answer.

I was hopeful that the Hammers wouldn’t become the first side to not achieve victory against an opponent who accumulated TWO red cards in the first half for the first time since 2013, when Sheffield United drew 2-2 with Brentford in League One, but fortunately, that certainly wasn’t the case.

A crucial victory was required, and a crucial victory was achieved. Nothing but happy smiles midweek!

I think you are more easily entertained than I am because Wrexham apart, this season has been an absolute borefest. I agree that the omission of VAR from this league is a plus but it does slightly amuse me that had VAR been in place this season we would probably be three points better off.

Mate called me yesterday morning friend of his could not make the game so he asked me if i wanted to go i did not need asking twice....so good to see the players in the flesh again and met a few old friends i used to go with they all thought i was dead! lol great crack and a bonus to see us win and yes against nine men but that was their fault not ours.

Were we perfect maybe not and did i see a couple of problems we all discussed on the trip back yes but lets just enjoy a great win but the fans the banter the songs ahhh it just rejuvenates you and takes you back to the good old days.

Being in such a small ground made it even better as you are close to the play and jeez we have some big old units out their which may not come across to those who attend home games.

Soucek we all no is Burkies favourite player is such a decent man and giving his shirt same as Bowen to young fans will last long in those kids memories.

all in all a great night out and fortunately for me i don't have work today! so i can just relax with my thoughts of the game and be happy i saw us score six away COYI

within all the melee it was pleasing to see young Golambekis enter the fray and he looked assured... ok we were well ahead but he played with a cool head and I think that replacing Mav was a shrewd move by Nuno looking to save him for the visit to South Wales. Of course we huffed and puffed and indeed laboured at times but once down to 9 men Lincoln were on a mission of damage limitation. Would we have won if 11 stayed on? I think so but maybe a 3-0 not the six we ended with. I did wonder how we did not get a penalty when the ref was in clear view of a deliberate tread but still at 6-0 can't complain and no serious injuries although we do need to come out the blocks with more purpose.
