Haller's Horror Show

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Tue, 29/03/2022 - 22:01

When West Ham United's record £45 Million signing Sebastien Haller was sold on to Ajax for a £25 Million loss, many fans thought good riddance to a player who was clearly NOT suited to the particularly frenzied pace of the Premier League. However Haller thrived in the Eredivisie on his arrival inHolland and more importantly set the Champions League on fire by breaking the record for the most goals scored in an initial group stage.

Haller's exploits since leaving the Irons had many questioning David Moyes' wisdom in letting him go, especially as Moyes has as yet failed to sign a replacement for the Ivorian International. Tuesday evening's game between England and the Ivory Coast promised to show how far and how much Haller would be missed by those in East Loindon as his team squared up to Declan Rice's England.

Well we are not exactly sure, but are of the opinion that Haller touched the ball on only FIVE occassions during his entire game, before being hauled off near the end. If anyone needed further proof of how unsuited Haller is to the 'English' game, then this match proved to be a perfect example of how inept and slow Haller is when having to play at a high octane pace.

Hopefully fans can now see that Moyes was indeed right to get rid of Haller. it's just a pity he couldn't or wouldn't bring in a replacement. - LN

Lingard Nailed On For Irons Confirmed

Sometimes it is easy to add two plus two regarding football transfers and end up with five, or more often than not, zero! The Jesse Lingard to West Ham story occupied a lot of column inches before it subsided, even interest from the 'Stone Throwers' wasn't sufficient to fan the flames enough to re-ignite the story during January's transfer window fall out period.

Manchester United made it very clear that they would NOT sanction any move to another rival, which at the time included West Ham, some say their judgement was validated by Hammers' form falling off the cliff without Lingard being added to David Moyes' team.

Manchester's 'Dog in a manger' approach DID yield a short term benefit BUT at the cost of totally disenfranchising a player who had been at Old Trafford man and boy for most of his life! To rub salt in Lingard's wounds the Northern club have confirmed they have no intention to open talks with Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani or Juan Mata regarding contract extensions. Apparently a plan set in stone by Ralf Rangnick that has not changed, according to relatively respected journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Lingard has put his house up for sale, which could be as a result of the phenomenal amount of burglaries carried out on Premier League footballers' homes in the Manchester area, Lingard's home being one of them, or it could be because of the robbery AND the fact that he plans to move South towards the Capitol and re-unite with David Moyes and West Ham United.

Money is VERY important to Premier League players, BUT it is NOT the be all and end all, especially for those who have already been well rewarded throughout their career, Lingard is NOT a poor man, on the contrary he is a savvy business man who has already invested his wealth wisely and has thus secured himself and his family financially for the rest of their lives.

Lingard NEEDS to play, NOT sit on the Bench and to be given a 'libero' role, one in which he excelled when he was loan at West Ham, his performances earning him a recall to Gareth Southgate's England squad, albeit only temporarily. Moyes 'loves' Lingard, Lingard 'loves' Moyes AND West Ham, yes the Stone Chuckers can offer him a massive salary and a HUGE signing on fee, but for Lingard it seems that "loyalty is pure, not tainted by the lure of things that can be gained".

We might have added things up wrong and people also say "you should never return" but we say"why not!" Lingard could be the player who helps 'bridge' the period during which some of the club's astounding youth players can evolve and progress to the first team, NOTHING beats home grown talent, but a youth product from Manchester United's 'glory days' might help things along. - Ed

Rice To 'Mask' Haller

England face Ivory Coast on Tuesday for what will be another decent test following their narrow victory over Switzerland who are currently 14th in the FIFA World rankings. So bearing in mind it will be the last World Cup warm up, Ivory Coast will provide a totally different test to an England team that will have West Ham's Declan Rice at the heart of its defence.

The fact that England manager Gareth Southgate deemed it necessary to bring Rice on to 'firm up' the defence to close out and manage the game against the Swiss, is testament to how highly valued the Hammers talisman is, globally as well as domestically.

The extra bit of spice for Tuesday's game will be ex-Hammer Sebastien Haller 'facing off' against Declan Rice, the club's most expensive signing who was sold to Ajax for a £25 Million loss has gone from strength to strength since leaving Stratford, breaking Champions League records along the way.

It will be interesting to see how they match up, SHOULD both be selected to play in what is after all a 'window dressing' friendly. Hammers fans while being interested in seeing the Haller who the club paid so much money for, around £45 Million, plying his trade in a role where he actually gets service!

Haller was entirely unsuited to the cut and thrust of the Premier League, perhaps given time he might have adapted, but that question is academic now and as everyone knows, the Premier League takes NO prisoners and does NOT allow players ANY time to settle.

Many question whether Rice would be able to 'adapt' to playing in a different League? To which we would answer, "Is the Pope a Catholic?" - Ed

Jimbo's Fit And Raring To Go!

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sun, 27/03/2022 - 11:06

David Moyes has been in need of a straight 180 as his Hammers team chase down glory on TWO different fronts, juggling injuries to star players hasn't helped his demeanour which is 'prickly' at the best of times, so the news that one of his 'top boys' is ready willing and able to join the fray for the team's remaining eight Premier League games AND the vital UEFA Europa League Cup ties beginning with the two legged 1/4 final against Lyon will have pleased the manager no end, as hopefully he can navigate a path to the final in Sevilla later this year as well as maintaining the club's domestic pursuits.

Bowen has been such an integral part of Moyes' high energy set up, losing him for five games put additional strain on an already depleted and wafer thin squad. Although others have chipped in with goals, Bowen's contributions have been missed massively, not just his goal scoring or assists which are right up their with the best in Europe, but his all round commitment to the cause and never say die attitude which epitomise the squad's spirit and collective positivity.

Top four in the Premier League is a distant dream, the rights and wrongs of transfer dealings, or the lack of them, will be the subject of much debate during the season's summer recess. Finishing in the top six for the 2nd year running however IS a distinct possibility, it won't be easy, but it IS do able.

Champions League qualification is still possible if the club can go on and win the Europa League Cup, although there are many who feel that the full Champions League would be a bridge too far for the Irons UNLESS there is MASSIVE investment in the squad, both in upgrading AND more importantly in ensuring a much higher strength in depth, only then could Hammers realistically be challengers in Europe's top flight.

Bowen's enthusiasm is infectious, and while it is a pity he missed his England call up because if his injury, he will now be as fresh as one of the 'cow pies' he had do dodge while training on a farm last year to 'Max' his fitness. Eight games and the 1/4 finals of a major European competition will define Hammers season, at least the forward line will be able to fire on ALL cylinders for the remaining matches. - LN

Moyes Crossing Fingers

The International break used to be a time of rest and recuperation for the majority of West Ham United's players, but since the club has become 'massive' that is no longer the case. With International recognition, comes the managerial caveat of potential injuries being picked up.

Hammers manager David Moyes was given an early present in the form of Michail Antonio's non selection for the Jamaica team's three 'dead rubber' matches, although he will be fearful of his other players getting injured, particularly the club's talisman Declan Rice.

Fortunately, or unfortunately Jarrod Bowen wasn't included in the England squad, due to getting crocked during the game against Liverpool (how Robertson escaped sanction for taking Bowen out we do NOT understand). The 25 year old will have had a much needed rest ahead of what promises to be an exciting but arduous final few games of the season, a Jarrod Bowen firing on all cylinders scares the hell out of the opposition, his return to action will give the whole team a fillip ahead of the season defining Europa League Cup quarter final against Lyon, Hammers of course being the ONLY English club left in the competition.

David Moyes has got to get his 'band of brothers' assembled for one last push, an effort that hopefully will be supported in the future with some sound investment in new players to add to what is already an impressive first team line up. No one could have asked more of such a small squad, they have literally run themselves into the ground, a fact that has NOT escaped the notice of fans who continue to turn up in their droves to support a team that is 'MASSIVE'. - Ed

Under 23's

After the heady experience of The mighty Irons (nail biting) victory over Sevilla I decided to take in the under 23's on Friday evening v Brighton. A few players caught my eye in the young Hammers ranks ... Alese was very commanding at the back, Perkins coud and should have had a first half hat-trick but to be fair Brighton young keeper pulled off a couple of blinding saves.
Hegyi pulled off a worldy, Longelo was kept busy nut overall looked quite composed. Ekwah netted a superb opener and was very commanding in the centre of midfield and the inter play between him an Alese was a joy to watch. Forson another goal scorer and incidently the smallest player on the pitch reminded me of Mark Ward in his pomp. Perkins impressed with his battling play and even though on the night he should have had at least 4 goals he never once gave up and got involved in a lot of forward play. Freddie Potts was another who put in a terrific and spirited performance. Thierry Nevers added a little something when he came on and indeed netted!
Kudos to Brighton and a few of their lads stood out as well, no's 7 & 11 (Peupion and Miller) both of Brightons scorers occupied the wide areas and were very impressive, constantly running and teasing our defenders, Mc Gill in goal had a very decent match and Brighton skipper Marc Leornard would look very good beside Alese.
What was evident is the overall team spirit and determination and the lads I mentioned for West Ham on this showing have a serious future in the game, Okoflex, Laing, Chesters and Greenidge all played their part and are certainly integral in this side, I hope this gives a little insight into the lads and hopefully encourage more fans to watch the and at £5 a real bargain and a great way to encourage our junior support.

Moyes 'Mumbo Jumbo' Missive!

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Tue, 22/03/2022 - 12:01

"West Ham are MASSIVE everywhere we go" is the self-deprecating chant that has become very popular among Hammers fans of late, David Moyes has managed to get his 'rag tag' band of players punching well above their weight in the Premier League AND in Europe.

All this despite having a criminally small squad, a situation exasperated by a chronic lack of recruitment during the notoriously difficult and expensive January transfer window. Moyes has expressed a 'level of annoyance' when repeatedly questioned about the club's top four or even top six aspirations, citing the fact that the club have been there or there abouts the top six of the PREMIER LEAGUE FOR THE LAST TWO SEASONS!

Of course by not making ANY signings, the Hammers manager DID leave himself open for a certain amount of criticism, but it was HIS choice and no one else's to NOT make any signings, the money WAS there, but the quality was NOT! For years and years the board caved into fan pressure AND the need to sell season tickets by making BIG promises that they invariably failed to keep and ended up by 'panic' buying 'journey men' players or those seeking a final pay day, or even worse, those with a bad injury record who were also seeking a final pay day.

This is the very first season since Doug and Dins and their Moll took over when the club HASN'T had to borrow against season ticket sales, in the past they used a 'payday' loan company based in the Bahamas which is believed to be owned in Joe Lewis, latterly they used Media Rights and Funding Ltd, but that had to change when a new rule was introduced by the FA and the Premier League that came in to force preventing the borrowing from any source other than inbound investment or an arrangement with an FCA registered lender, ie: a 'proper' Bank.

So, while seeming like a well rehearsed missive, David Moyes' message is actually that "we are massive" and will make meaningful moves in the market when the right players are available, twist your tongue around that Mumbo Jumbo! - Ed

Did Moyes Have A Word With Reggae Boyz Coach?

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Mon, 21/03/2022 - 18:14

Hammers ONLY striker Michail Antonio has NOT been called up to represent Jamaica by the Reggae Boyz coach Paul Hall for their forthcoming World Cup games as it is believed Hammers boss David Moyes 'intervened'. The games, which were ALL due to be played within 7 days, are essentially dead rubbers, as Jamaica cannot possibly qualify for the next tournament due to their poor earlier qualifying results.

This news will come as a great relief to many Hammers fans AND David Moyes who has been openly critical of Big Mich's performances of late, jetting off to the other side of the World for THREE matches in SEVEN days is quite frankly a ludicrous proposition for a young footballer, let alone a 31 year old with a history of injury problems who is currently ploughing a lonely furlough as the club's only striker!

We are under the impression that someone, probably Mark Noble sat Mikey Antonio down for a 'chat' to discuss the pros and cons of his new found International commitments, Marky might well have reminded the ex-Forest man exactly on which side his bread is buttered and who pays his wages, NOT the owners, but the FANS!

Faced with the details in the cold light of day, Mikey himself has probably realised his 'International' boat has already sailed, he can however 'console' himself safe in the knowledge that he can now recharge his batteries, send his troublesome 'Hammies' off for a short break (They must be detachable given their size surely?) and prepare himself for the club's remaining 8 Premier League games and the absolutely VITAL two Europa League Cup 1/4 final games against Olympique Lyonnais.

Hammers season is in the balance, there is still plenty to play for including trying to achieve a top six finish AND of course continuing the European adventure, these should be the main priorities for ANY West Ham player, look after the club and your International career will look after itself, that is unless it is too late!

Better to be a 'massive' fish in a small pond, than a big fish in an ego filled ocean!-LN
