With West Ham confirming Nuno Espírito Santo’s stay at the club within a few days of relegation being confirmed, the Hammers now turn their attention to the staff as well as the players.
Assistant Head Coach Paco Jemez has released a statement which indicates his time at West Ham is over after his contract has run out. Whilst disappointing, West Ham was his first-ever gig as an assistant, and he wants to explore an avenue elsewhere, somewhere he’ll be the top dog.
Other than Paco, West Ham will be making numerous other changes with the backroom staff, but at this stage no names have been mentioned; though, you would hope it would be people from Nuno’s past.
Looking at the players, it’s become apparent that despite Summerville’s statement indicating that he would like to stay, he would have to be sold for financial reasons.
Callum Wilson is rumoured to have signed a new contract but wants to return to the Premier League - another conflicting statement. It can only be assumed that perhaps he would have a release clause or it’s a way for West Ham to get a small fee, around the £1-2m region… better than a kick in the teeth!
Malick Diouf has had enquiries from numerous other Premier League clubs, and Everton are gunning for Wan-Bissaka, hoping to secure a deal around the £10,000,000 mark. West Ham will attempt to negotiate a bit more, but our bargaining power is minimal.
The club are also anticipating that a bidding war will unfold between Stuttgart and Dortmund for Konstantinos Mavropanos. Whilst no offer has been made at the moment, it is speculated that a fee in the £20-25m margin is expected.
With the transfer window not being open and rumoured targets are out in full force, it certainly will be a rollercoaster. Some bigger sales will be made sooner in the window, and some will be made later on - the World Cup campaign hasn’t come at an ideal time.
Strap yourself in - there is much more chaos ahead of us!
