A 2-0 away win at The Emirates! let us all be honest who saw that result or indeed that performance coming, we were crisper, looked fitter and it looked like everyone was playing for each other. Only one game down and still a hard 37 to go but if confidence is built on results then this has to be a massive confidence booster as we have not won here since our first ever visit. Arsene looked well miffed but our lads were immense .... no lack of effort and even sitting deep we looked confident. Played the ball well out of defence , tracked back, got men forward ! Forget stats like possession or attempts it's the for and against goals column that counts and we scored the all important! Fantastic start and in particular well done Adrian, Payet, Oxford and Reid. I will go to work tomorrow with the biggest grin ever!

I never saw that coming was hoping for a draw or not to get smashed , could have ended up about 4-0 . Let the good times roll .

Nolan come on for Oxford to see the game out , but would have liked to have seen Poyet come on for Zarate when taken off .

Unbelievable performance from all the team today. Was a bit concerned when zarate came off for jarvis, but to be fair for once jarvis,& even nolan & maiga played pretty well when they came on!Confidence breeds success & our boys were immense today...as for the fans who went today-when things are going well, are there better supporters in the land?i think not!!A very happy hammer this evening.....

Fantastic result and wasn't it great to see Oxford playing as well, great confidence booster for the players, I was a bit concerned with the early bookings but we managed to keep 11 on the pitch, couldn't be happier

Yo know what they say about our dreams. Maybe we just put a tin hat on to stop all the subliminal messages come through and take it 1 game at a time. Top of the table clash next and they don't come much tougher than that.

Chippy and I's "dream" can be visited another day mate.

Todays a day for celebration (no matter which players we favour or not!!).

Fantastic point re "top of the table" clash lol.

Leicester are "the form team" arent they.

What did they end the season with was it 7 wins from their last 10 games. Now another win.

Should be an exciting prospect.

I go 2-1 Hammers.

My predictions haven't gone well so far haha so I might refrain from pointing out I expect us to get 3 points...oops! Same effort and commitment is paramount and from there we can all look to the skies and believe

Theres no reason to think it will be anything other than an open exciting game.

I think Bilic has set his stall out regarding the fact he intends to attack teams (quite why any manage rwould try to do anything else totally baffles me) and to that end I would expect attacking flair from both sides.

You dont put the kind of run together that Leicester have without having belief and the fact that somebody is going to go out and attack them suit them Im sure.

One tiny bit of concern for me could be "crowd expectation".

Sure we can win the game but for me whats equally important is that we build on the good start of commitment, game plan and tempo.

If we get that then that will auger well for the season and hopefully beyond.

Agree. Expectation is a funny thing. Doubt any Hammer really expected anything at the Emirates and if the 'expected result' had happened then nerves would have been frayed and the Leicester game season defining. Now it's nothing but positive juices, mostly, and the air of expectation in our first home game in our last season at The Boleyn will be off the chart! I hope and pray our usual WLD combination start to the season doesn't manifest and we can be 6pts to the good and positive about the season ahead.
We did look a little thin on bodies, so hopefully the injured players to come back can do in the knowledge we're playing well and they need to do the same. This is my Carroll needs to deliver season. I've had nothing negative to say about the guy so far as the injuries he's had have been bloody unfortunate for both him and us. If and I know it's a big IF, he can stay fit and have a good season, then with Sakho, who looked as energetic as ever, Valencia back when fit and Zarate, then we could have enough to deliver a fitting farewell.
It's a great start but the race is a long one and we need to keep our feet on the ground( when they eventually come down after this result) and give the manager and players the support and time to deliver.

Totally concur re " The Carroll situation" however I personally have 3 concern on his front.

1) The number (and seriousness) of injuries hes now had at his age.
2) The fact that when a player misses pre season training (such as he has again) they rarely catch up with expected and necessary fitness levels for the season (thus making them more prone to injury again)!!!!
3) If and I say IF Bilics intention is to play 1 up top I dont feel he has the mobility to perform that role. Yesterday seemed to be about trying to get Sahko onto the shoulder of the last defender to use his pace and for him to break into the channels. As we know Carrolls game is much more about "knock it back with my head to the 2nd striker".

Maybe (if he even gets fit enough) it is a tactic that Bilic will deploy.
Not sure I would be mega keen on it though.
I like my forwards to be mobile (as in Sahkos case) as it keeps their back 4 pinned back allowing your midfield to push up.
Go "the Carroll route" and it can allow the opposition to move up and really congest the midfield then you also lose the ability of you CF being able to sprint away from the opposition defense thus rendering your attacking options much more limited. That said there is now way you want to go through an entire season having to rely solely on Sahko to lead the line.
I thnk Valencia will fit into the system much better WITH SAHKO (for me in place of Zarate who despite scoring a decent goal I feel is neither a team player or looks anywhere fit enough for this level.

Yep I'd say Sakho is definitely no.1 striker and will be the auto first choice. Valencia and Carroll will definitely be needed though for a long hard season and unless we get someone else in, Zarate and Maiga complete the forward line. Not great strength in depth but good numbers and a few options for partnerships. Carroll is a dilemma though and your points above are all valid.

I was hoping at best for 1 maybe 2 points from our first three away days but this is just amazing...keeping feet firmly on the ground though...a long season with many ups and downs awaits but I am gonna lap this up.
