Throughout our history we as a club now and then find a top striker only to sell them on without any kind of plan as to who will succeed the departed frontman it is for everyone who supports the club very very annoying.
The decisions on buying a new striker is equally frustrating when you see the ones we are "interested" in but decide against it as he is not a Salthouse man!.
Viktor Gyökeres the ex Coventry striker who was doing really well in the championship we had a chance to get this player but for whatever reason you give and the one told is £20million was to much for the player Sporting Lisbon thought not and now his value is said to be at least 3 times that and he is scoring goals for fun. Ivan Toney another one offered to us for £10million and Sullivan said no but admits he does regret that one.
So when you see the list that we were "linked" with throughout the Summer yet somehow decide that Antonio will be worth hanging onto for one more season and Fulkrug and this is not having a go at the player in any shape or form but deciding that we will spend £27million on a 31 year old play that has had injuries seemed very short sighted and a panic buy for me.
Was there ever a Duran deal to be done? if there was whoever knocked that on the head will have egg all over his face now as it appears after his start to the season the valuation is now £80million which if Villa decided to sell they would get easily because of his age and his ability.
So who is out there that could do a job for us as burying our heads in the sand is not going to solve the problem and for me i have to say taking into account our kitty if anything is left and it is coming out of left field here but i would like us to take a chance on a young striker and that is Josh Sargent at Norwich City Underwhelmed sighs i hear but i do think he can do a job for us far better than Antonio can and now that we have Fulkrug injured or not Sargent could learn a lot from him to help his continued development. As a club we have to think more along these lines than getting in an exotic sounding name form abroad and they are not up to standard for the championship let alone the Premier League as we have had to many of those types down the years and more recent times as well and before you have a pop and say Sargent is American i would like to think you know where i am coming from. So who have you been looking at or thinking why not take a chance on this guy or that guy?
For me BG there is one stand
For me BG there is one stand out player and he plays against us on Saturday. I watched him on Sunday against Villa. He is the next Harry Kane in my opinion. Came up from the championship last season. Liam Delap, I'd go all out for him in January. Son of ex tea towel throw in legend Rory "long one" Delap.
This kid is phenomenal 21 years old a Man City graduate and full team player under Pep. It's a no brainer for me. Watch him rip us apart tomorrow. Ipswich are only going one way and that's up and up...!!!
The thing is good strikers
The thing is good strikers want good money,so they go and get picked for successful clubs with the money, the half baked ones come to us,as we dont pay big bucks, and are constantly being crap.
I still think Haller &
I still think Haller & Scamacca were good enough. But Moyes never played to their strengths. I would be inclined to go the Championship route. These guys are used to the physicality & pace of the football played here. As Essex said. You get what you pay for. I'm sure with hindsight Villa would have got the money they wanted for Duran. But with our luck he would have done himself an injury. Our problem is mismanagement.
It's not the strikers
It's the set up. and has been for a long time. The last striker we had capable of being a lone number 9 was Big Andy (and even he had littluns around him sometimes) and the ones we have bought in are more suited to a two up top. I'm quite happy with Ings as it happens but not on his own. No, he is not a 90 minute player, but I think he'd thrive up top with Fullkrug, get in front and then bring on Ants in the last half hour to hold up play. And this is my argument. Lets get in front, not chase being a goal down.
Only player outside the Premier League I thought worth a crack was Macaulay Langstaff of Notts County. What a phenomenon. Hardly uprooting any trees now he's at Millwall though is he? It's a gamble picking lower league players and historically, we've done very well out of it. But for every Billy Jennings, Alan Taylor, Keith Robson, there's always a Ted MacDougall or a Jordan Hugill lurking about.
Maybe stop blaming the players and start looking at the set up. And I actually believe that Lopetegui will be better at doing that than one system,my system, Moyes
Not many will disagree with your points Deluded
And we all wish we would start our home games on the front foot have a real go not start slow let the opposition settle in and play but the new man seems not to be one to do that and as a fan it is incredibly frustrating.....Ings we are all singing from the same song sheet he needs a partner up there not be left alone. but until he works out who he thinks are his starting eleven we are going to look like an unoiled machine instead of a well oiled one
