Francois Van Der Elst (RIP)

Submitted by irons1965 on Wed, 11/01/2017 - 10:52

For some of us of a certain age, I've just heard that a great Belgian favourite to play for us in the 80's has sadly passed away today age 62.
Great player....RIP.

I'm saddened to hear this, he was a great player to watch, pace to burn - I have memories of him scoring against Birmingham in a 5-0 drubbing at the Boleyn back in the day - Rest in Peace Frankie :(

I recall his pen ultimate goal for us, a solo effort and great finish against Notts County at home. Dropping the shoulder again and again, changes of pace leaving opponents chasing shadows.
Not an all time great, but a terrific player to watch who has died far too young.

May he rest in peace.

good and bad memories of FvdE, good being link up play with Sir Trev, bad when he and Robbie Rensenbrink tore us apart in the ECWC final... my first and only venture into Europe! P.S. Also thanks to Frank Lampard Senior and the alleged links with Belgian brewery Belle Vue :o)
